Life on Kerr Lake, Henderson, NC

Welcome to life on Kerr Lake

Located in Northern North Carolina and Southern Virginia, Kerr Lake is situated on over 50,000 acres, and has over 850 miles of shoreline. Kerr Lake is the largest lake in North Carolina, and is one of the largest lakes in the south.  It is a manmade lake developed in 1952 to produce electricity and to provide flood control.

Kerr Lake provides excellent fishing, as there is a great population of bass, catfish, crappie, and others.  Many Fishing tournaments are held here throughout the year, and draw quite a crowd.

Many locals live on the lake throughout the summer months, as water sports are greatly enjoyed on Kerr‘s open waters.  There are plenty of public access ramps to launch your boat or Jet Ski's or canoes or other water toys.  There are many parks and recreation areas also provided by North Carolina & Virginia to enjoy a cookout or party at the lake.   In July, you can enjoy the wonderful fireworks display on the lake from the boat.  This is quite an attraction, and most people make a day of it, either on land, or by boat...bringing plenty of food for the family or to share with a neighboring boat if you wish.

Kerr Lake

Since North Carolina enjoys a warmer climate than neighboring states to the north throughout the year, you can enjoy the lake all year long.  It is not uncommon to be out on the lake fishing on a warm Christmas eve or New Years.   The lake is also enjoyed by thousands of vacationers each year who stay in Henderson, NC close by hotels or lake vacation homes.

If you would like to enjoy lake life either full time or in the summer months, then you may want to look into purchasing on or near Kerr Lake.  Compared to a lot of other water front areas, Henderson & surrounding area's are quite affordable.  You can also find a great deal on a home that only requires a ten minute or less drive to the lake, and don't worry about hauling your boat, I forgot to mention that Kerr lake has three marina's, one is located on Satterwhite Point Road here in Henderson.

How do you create and work a team?

I am interested in learning how to create a team and needs some tips.  This would not be a family team but beginning with two independent agents joining together to accomplished more and utiitize our time wisely.  We are both experienced and skilled in all tasks of real estate and don't want to spend a lot of time duplicating work.  I love listings and the other agent enjoys working with buyers.  We both have our offices at home.  However, my office is inside my house and I often work early mornings and late nights.  Any suggestions and tips are welcome?

Introduction of 27 years of experience real estate agent

Hello, my name is Gayla Strickland and I'm new on the Active Rain Blogging site.  Let me introduce myself.  I am a full time real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Advantage in Wake Forest, North Carolina.  I have been a real estate agent for 27 years - wow have I seen changes in the market and the profession.  I live in Henderson, North Carolina and work the market from North Raleigh to the Virginia state line.  Some of the area's that I cover include: Vance County (Henderson), Granville County (Oxford, Creedmoor), Franklin County (Franklinton, Louisburg, Youngsville) Wake County (Wake Forest, North Raleigh) Warren County (Warrenton, Norlina) and the Kerr Lake area.

I love the business of Real Estate and from the first moment I started in the business I decided I would treat this profession as my career and not just a job.  Like many agents, I can be very tired and receive a phone call from a potential buyer and it's like a new day where I'm revived and ready to go.  I feel very responsible to my clients (both buyers and sellers) to strive to help them obtain their real estate goals.

The majority of my business is from past clients and referrals from friends and clients.  I work on all types of properties - residential, new construction, land, resort properties, development and commercial.

My entire family is very understanding about my high demanding real estate career.  My husband and I have two grown sons, one daughter-in law and four wonderful grandsons - ages 15, 13, 10 and 8.  When our 10 year old grandson was 4, I went on a field trip with his pre-school class and he was riding with me.  My phone rung and after the conversation, he asked me why I had to answer the phone so much.  I simply told him that the more calls I answer the quicker we could go to Disney World.  The remainder of the day and often times now, he will encourage me to answer the phone.  We have taken them 3 times to Disney World, which they love as much as I do.

My hobbies are traveling especially with family, boating, jet skiing (can't swim) and reading (which I wish I had more time for)

At one time I belonged to a real estate mentor group where we shared ideas, tips and techniques.  We would learn about each other market, goals and ways of doing their business.  Today we send each other referrals.  I would love to hear about you and your market place.

I look forward to sharing my knowledge to the Active Rain & Localism communities, as well as learning from others on the networks.  Even with 27+ years experience, I feel that you can never learn enough.  Best of Holiday wishes to you & yours this season, and I hope that we can work together in the future!
