Make sure the HEAT is on!!!!! - 11/28/10 12:06 PM
We should NOT have to wear gloves when showing a home! I have noticed that so many people are conserving energy which is GREAT, but not when you have potential buyers viewing your home.. I took out some buyers yesterday in Larchmont and New Rochelle, and 3 of the townhouses were vacant and COLD..It was not inducive to sell, and they couldn't wait to leave each property..... I guess it goes back to staging... but a warm home is welcoming, and so we should  remind our sellers to make sure there are lightbulbs and to turn on the heat...

How Social Media helped me today! - 11/26/10 03:09 PM
Well... always tongue in cheek, but I expected the day to be quiet... It would seem people are taking advantage of Black Friday and all that, but yours truly decided to offered to do phone duty in the Larchmont office, and catch up on -  Social Media! I am about to launch a new website too, and thought it would be a productive day in many ways. I was supposed to be here until 11:30 - decided to stay until 4.
Our secretary went home at 2, and just as she was leaving, in walked a lovely older couple - looking … (11 comments)

Reflections on Thanksgiving - 11/25/10 08:33 AM
Being born in England, I never experienced Thanksgiving until I came to the United States. It is a yearly tradition that I look forward to and enjoy with family and friends.  However, it is being able to give that is the most rewarding. I once made a large turkey to take to a halfway house in nearby White Plains, another time taking food to someone in need at a local housing project. But I think the most memorable Thanksgiving was going to a Bowl Game with our local Youth Tackle League football team. Held every Thanksgiving weekend (the buses leave late on Thanksgiving … (8 comments)

Hi! I was privileged to be at the first Thomas Paine Annual Award Dinner on November 17th, honoring Dick Morris, Please click below for a short synopsis of the wonderful evening. The three Community Award recipients were lead by the Trinity St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Worship has taken place on this site since 1688 and this year marks their 322nd Anniversary. An early Thanksgiving Story....... at my expense! - 11/19/10 10:48 AM
Well, years ago, I used to teach cooking at the Remington Boys and Girls Club in New Rochelle. I thought it would be nice to make gingerbread, and have my cooking class decorate the gingerbread turkeys I had made, and take them home (of course)...... One little girl politely asked me if I was English. I replied that I was... and she then asked me whether I had to kill many Indians when I first came over! HA! I replied that I was old.....but not quite that old..... (and then I tried to explain that we were not so nice to the … (8 comments)

There are Inspectors and then INSPECTORS......Be prepared! - 11/14/10 10:45 AM
I think we can all agree that some inspectors are more vigilant than others. As a listing agent, when I hear the buyers are utilizing X company, it might make me groan or smile... and I think we have all been there. We obviously want the inspector to be knowledgeable, honest and forthright, but while some inspectors will state that this needs to be done "down the line, or in 5 years..." others will make other statements....There is one company though that makes me SHUDDER..... I have had several dealings with this company. The first time was when I represented the buyers...We had … (14 comments)

"Look into my EYES - look into my EYES......." - 11/13/10 11:15 AM
When I wrote that, I thought of a funny English comedy show called "Little Britain.." Very cute, and sometimes raunchy skits, but in this case I am referring to a clairvoyant friend I have. I have known her for over 15 years, and visit her once a year for my 'check-ups! Ha! It is better than going to a doctor, as she will tell you ' you are fine, you have this or that, check it out, but it will be fine..." She is amazing... not to replace medicine at all, but she is comforting...My husband always imagines that heart attack, and … (15 comments)

RAY RICE (Ravens) welcomes the New Rochelle Youth Tackle League - 11/12/10 03:16 PM
Youth Tackle League of New Rochelle - To Visit Baltimore and see Ray Rice November 10th, 2010 Whenever I think of the New Rochelle Youth Tackle League, I think of Mr. Joseph Fosina…. he, like Ray Rice (see my blog dated June 11th, 2010 about Ray Rice Day), is an icon in our great city, and yet if you were to google his name, not too much appears on the internet. Why? Simply because Mr. Fosina (Joe to everyone) is a humble person, and who only cares about the advancement of the program and the well being of the young men … (0 comments)

Across America - Sharing relocation info/sales process in the different states - 11/11/10 11:16 AM
Hi - I just started a new Group! Yikes another group!  I have been reading with great interest, the various travails we all have across the US in the listing and buying process....  and the one thing that is quite apaprent is that our local laws/sales process/contractual/inspection process is quite different from state to state... and this obviously offsets the time differential required when buying a home say in California in comparison to New York - be it lower Westchester or upstate - all different. SO, I was thinking that if you had a client who wanted to relocate to New … (4 comments)

New Rochelle Library Foundation - Fundraiser - The CelebriTea Sunday November 14th, 3:30 p.m. - 11/10/10 07:19 PM
I had written about the New Rochelle Library Foundation’s CelebriTea past events in my blog of May 26th, 2010 and mentioned this event, but I am now pleased to announce that the CelebriTea is finally here - this coming Sunday at 3:30 p.m. The event is to help fund new carpeting, and the newly refurbished lobby. As I had written back in May, highly renowned and respected authors sit on a stage to discuss their books, and there is a general discussion, a Q and A session chaired by Nicholas Lemann who is the Dean of the Columbia School of … (2 comments)

My Cleaning Lady 'MOLLY' is for sale.. - 11/08/10 06:09 PM

The one thing we all notice as Realtors®, are the years and years of ‘stuff’, collectibles, ‘stuff’, antiques, toys, books and ‘stuff’ that we see in seller’s homes either before their home enters the market, or when it is on the market, and you wonder why didn’t they/someone/anyone de-clutter.
With that in mind, I thought it would be a good idea to hold a garage sale to start de-cluttering my home rather than leaving it to my children (50 years hence - I am being optimistic!)   I am not selling my home, but all of a suddden, I … (8 comments)

We DON'T Need to Sell.. so we will take it OFF the market. - 11/04/10 10:04 AM
We DON'T NEED to sell -  so, we will take it off the MARKET

I am sure we have all had that same experience. You have worked incredibily hard for several months, and after having decent showings, no bids. The sellers state that they don't need to sell, but you know that they REALLY WANT to sell.. so education is key here (and praying, and hoping they are open to discussion about it) I think the key thing here is feedback, market updates and stats. My websites let me know exactly how many people have visited my clients' homes via the … (15 comments)

Madame -what would you like to drink with your canned Sardines? - 11/03/10 08:36 PM

Okay - HUMOUR me (I am British here) ..... One of the most wonderful gifts/advantages of going to a diner is being able to indulge in what you want to eat, (what you should most definitely not eat, and definitely not when someone you know is in the near vicinity..
Today I had a closing... in my area- that is cause for celebration enough, but I asked my husband to go to the local diner (it was easy and I knew he would not object...) in New Rochelle on North Avenue....He ordered his Turkey dinner (very predictable but I digress), … (3 comments)

Local Real Estate versus Sy Syms - a local Analogy... - 11/01/10 08:05 PM
November 1st, 2010 Local Real Estate versus Sy Syms - a local Analogy
Mr. Sy Syms is well known in our area as having been someone who transformed the retail business in clothing sales. Mr. Syms’ store “Syms” was the first store in the United States to offer -off price Armani clothing.“ Already discounted designer clothing would have one price, BUT if it wasn’t sold within 30 days, it would then reflect another lower price, and then after 30 days, it would be further reduced and again after an additional 30 days, it would be even further reduced…… The only catch … (7 comments)
