My husband was a vet, I have a client who was a vet my father (may he rest in peace, was a Vet) ... I think there isn't anyone amongst us who does not know of someone who has served our country in its time of need.
New Rochelle is honoring our veterans, with a ceremony tomorrow commencing at 10:30 am. at Memorial Plaza, with a parade commencing at 11 am.  The parade will travel through Huguenot Street to North Avenue, Pelham Road and into the Hudson Park for a special waterfront ceremony honoring those heroes lost at sea.

Book Reviwe: James Lee Burke's "The Tin Roof Blowdown" - 05/25/11 08:36 AM

Oh, how I love his writing.... Would never have bought the book by the title... no appeal there... just just like his raw, incredibly insightful writing, Mr. Burke is able to put you into the most depraved minds with such artistic talent and wonderful prose that you are unable to put down his books... This, to me, was sort of like an insider's view of what happened - as it happened - during the awful Hurricane Katrina storm of 2005.... how the government mismanaged, failed the people there, the looting by both law and public, and how the local residents had … (0 comments)

Book Review: William Bernhardt's "Strip Search" - 05/25/11 08:28 AM

I like this writer.... this book was a touch different than his usual books. It centers upon a Behaviorist who has lost her position with the Las Vegas Police Force by being drunk on the job (after losing husband), and who continues to be drug dependent as the book progresses with mind numbing medicines of all kinds.... Since I don't believe in taking drugs, it was a reach for me to sympathize with the heroine to some extent but still, good, fast reading. Obviously, she realizes that she functions better without the pills before  the end of the book...  and … (0 comments)

The Seller's Pre-Inspection..... - 05/16/11 08:42 PM
I had a wonderful listing the other year.... I say wonderful, as I really loved the home, and the home-owners.... The house had so many great attributes, and the home-owners made it very easy to show... However, Some of the feedback led to sloping floors on the second floor, and those 'know-it-all- buyers said it was structural damage and would walk away... I suggested to the sellers that we have a pre-seller's inspection from an engineer. What is that?  Well, for a fraction of the cost  of a 'real inspection'   (in this case $250 compared to $750 in my area) you can have a licensed inspector/engineer visit the … (22 comments)

Book Review: Robert Crais "The Forgotten Man" - 05/15/11 09:50 AM
As I mentioned earlier, I just love this author... This book was published in 2005 so I am not reading in order but who cares? All good. This book centers around Joe Pike's friend and business partner, Elvis Cole, a private investigator, who receives a call from a detective claiming to have found a dying man in an  alley.. whose last words were " I am looking for my son, Elvis Cole." Elvis never knew his father, never met him, never knew his name, and so he finds himself searching out the man's identity, trying to discover whether this man, whose body … (6 comments)

Book Review: Robert Crais "The First Rule" - 05/14/11 08:43 AM

I love this author, and I have only recently discovered him. As soon as I had the first novel, I ran to the library, and sought out as many as I could find! The book, "The First Rule" was published in 2010, and features Joe Pike, a super cool loner who is lethal, but loyal. One of his 'men'  and entire family from the days he worked as a professional mercenary and contractor, is murdered, and Joe Pike sets out to find  how it happened, why it happened, and to seek vengeance - of course. He finds himself involved … (6 comments)

Book Review: David Baldacci's "Hell's Corner" - 05/14/11 08:23 AM
I am a little awestruck how the main character in this particular series, namely John Carr aka Oliver Stone, who went from being a seemingly homeless man, camped out in front of the White House to the country's most deadliest operative...... but that is the charm of Mr. Baldacci. He can take a few characters, and make it all into an enjoyable, action packed book. ... John Carr took revenge on a few people in the last book, and so in "Hell's Corner", it makes perfect sense for the now President to forgive him for those past transgressions if he takes out the … (0 comments)

Open Houses REALLY do work.... - 05/08/11 07:40 PM
I have had the good fortune to have sold 2 homes this year through open houses. Contracts signed on one, engineer's inspections performed on another.

I am having a listing appointment tomorrow...  with someone whom I had met a few years ago at 3 different open houses... They were not ready to buy at the time,  and I would keep seeing them at my different listings..When they contacted me last week, they stated that I was the only agent who followed up after an open house on behalf of the seller , and they never forgot that.... and so immediately … (28 comments)

Homeowners' Associations are Alive and Well! - 05/04/11 09:10 PM

When people think of buying a home in the suburbs, not only are they contemplating perhaps a future family, ease of travel to and from the city, but sometimes, they are seeking a sense of community. What better way of encompassing that then to join a Homeowner's Association or perhaps initiating one. Paine Heights in New Rochelle's estate area has a Paine Heights Association, and Glenwood Lake has the Glenwood Lake Association. They publish a newsletter entitled "The Back Fence." It is an authoritative newsletter, full of good tips, news on how the association has a 'clean-up day' around the … (16 comments)
