ERGONOMICS??? - 02/29/08 05:26 PM
Anyone remember that term? I thought about it recently because in this slowdown I am spending more time at my computer than I have in the past. I remember passing up those strange looking chairs for that tall leather bound chair that looked so good in the store. It still looks good but my back looks like spaghetti. So I went back to see what I should be doing. Put the computer monitor from 20 to 40 inches from your eyes. The midpoint should be 15 to 20 degrees below eye level. Keep your back straight in your chair. When you talk

Where Is David Wright? - 02/29/08 05:16 PM
David Wright of the New York Mets recently purchased a condo at Harbour Heights. One day you may catch him shopping at "The Market at Harbor Heights". Of course his condo needs to be competed first. The project is off to a good start with 59 of the 99 units under contract. He probably asked for privacy so you won't see any big party when he moves in. Would have been good for business. http://www.geneallen.com/ Come and see ALL the Homes for Sale in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, as well as the rest of Hampton Roads. Brown Pelican Thrives - 02/29/08 04:42 PM
This guy is 4 feet tall and has a wing span over six feet and is thriving here in our area. In fact it seems to be everywhere. I was at Rudee Inlet the other day and there must have been thirty brown pelicans hanging out. They wait for the fishing boats to come in and try to feast. They certainly are impressive when you see them plunging headlong from the air into the water and rising with a mouthful of fish. The pelicans are on the states' "species of concern" which means they have no legal protection but the state monitors them.

Fines For No Rental Inspections - 02/27/08 09:15 PM
Landlords since 2005 were required to have their apartments inspected before renting them. That was good except there was no penalty if you didn't get them inspected. Now the city has closed that loophole. It is now a Class U misdemeanor which is similar to a code violation. The fines could be as much as $2,500 but no jail time. I think this will get the attention of landlords who failed to get the inspections in the past. http://www.geneallen.com/ Come and see ALL the Homes for Sale in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, as well as the rest of Hampton Roads. Soap Scum Got You Down? - 02/27/08 08:21 PM
How do I clean the soap scum in the shower? I have used bleach, nylon pot scrubber, baking soda, dishwasher Magic, X-14 and White Rain Shampoo or any white shampoo will do. They all work in their own way. The best way I have found is to do away with soap and use a liquid type soap to wash with. For some reason that does not leave a film or scum on the shower. http://www.geneallen.com/ Come and see ALL the Homes for Sale in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, as well as the rest of Hampton Roads. Tired Of A Moldy Bathroom? - 02/27/08 08:17 PM
How can you tell the difference between mold and mildew? Well mildew is almost never inside your house unless it is on your plants. Mold can usually be detected by smell if you want to get close. If you suspect you have mold, paint it with a bit of household bleach. If it changes color or disappears it was mold. You can kill it with a weak solution of 1/3 bleach and 2/3 water. Let it sit for 15 minutes or so and then flush with water. To keep the mold from coming back, you need to find the source of

Tarleton Oaks - 02/26/08 08:24 PM
Location, location, location. That seems to be one of the biggest attractions of The Reserve at Tarleton Oaks, a newer condominium complex in Virginia Beach. The community of 148 homes was constructed in 2002 on Kempsville Road next to City View Park. The area is right at the city's border with Chesapeake and is sandwiched between Greenbrier and Kempsville. Just a few miles away is Greenbrier Mall and the numerous other retail stores, restaurants, banks and grocery stores of the Greenbrier area. Interchanges leading to several of the area's highways are also just a few miles away. People wanted to be in

Walmart and Cracker Barrel Coming Soon - 02/25/08 07:38 PM
A Wal-Mart and Cracker Barrel will be coming to Edinburgh soon but only after the city agreed to pay $4.5 million in road improvements. The developers of the Edinburgh West subdivision will kick in about $6.5 million themselves for the improvements. The city is putting in the money to make the improvements it feels are needed to make the roads right. The developer would have made the improvements needed but we all know they only do what is absolutely necessary. Holiday Inn To Be Razed - 02/25/08 07:25 PM

It will make way for a three phase project that will include up to 240 apartments, 211 condos, 29,000 sq ft of retail and 120,000 sq ft of office space. Other projects in Norfolk have stalled but this project looks to get off the ground running. To that end, the practices are harder and he advocates the band members prepare more strenuously, like running as much as two miles a day. The new attitude has paid off with nine trophies last fall. All were first place. The performances are more of a variety show now then just a single style performance. Wilson is also touring middle schools' to try and drum up new band members. School Budget Gets Small Increase - 02/20/08 10:34 AM
With the smallest funding increase in years the schools get few new programs but 3.5% raise for most of the staff. As it is, the budget of $724.8 million is 2.5% higher then last year. Some staff were cut and changes to the retirement/health care benefits saved some money so the budget wouldn't be to much. Photo Editing Comments Part Two - 02/19/08 03:59 PM
In my quest to make this house look better I took several peoples advice on the board. The result is the third photo. I shot a blue sky and put it around the house. I don't think I stepped over the bounds as the house now looks like it would on a sunny day. The picture was also taken on a ladder as it sits up on a hill and you have to look up at it. I still like the head on shot rather then the second one which is off to one side but would consider it depending on the house. I also

Public Health Building to Go Downtown - 02/13/08 06:52 PM
In a turn of events, city council is considering moving the proposed Public Health Building from Kings Fork Rd/Pruden Blvd to "The Fairgrounds" in downtown Suffolk. Workout Clothes Smelly? - 02/13/08 06:28 PM
This isn't a new real estate gadget but it might come in handy when trying to talk to someone at the gym. Even when I wash my workout clothes, those new aged microfiber ones, they still seem to smell like me after a workout. What I didn't know is that those wonderful little fibers trap bacteria and sweat. Normal detergents can't get them out. There is a new detergent called Win High Performance that uses oxidization to not only get that trapped stuff out but also rejuvenates the fabirc's moisture-wicking properties. Habitat For Humanity Approved - 02/13/08 04:30 PM
A stalled town-home proposal off I 264 in Virginia Beach has been approved. The problem is because of the location. The six town-home complex is in the 65-70 decibel noise zone around Oceana. Built between 1984 and 1986 by the Dragas Companies, the complex has 12 buildings with 172 units. Most first- and second-floor units have 1,200 square feet, two bedrooms and two baths with fireplaces and wrap-around balconies. Third-floor condos have 1,300 square feet. The extra 100 square feet results in a loft in the master bedroom complete with skylights. Some units also have boat slips. Most were some type of black bird but there were hundreds of robins. My local birds were there as well and weren't going to be run off. The blue bird wasn't intimidated by anyone. What a sight. Suffolk's Next City Manager - 02/06/08 04:40 PM
No job application? Wow that's pretty good but considering that Selena Cuffee-Glen has been with the city since 2005, maybe none was needed. She won Vice Mayor Curtis Milteer over on a trip to New York. City officials were trying to get the nations top three bond rating agencies to improve the cities outlook financially. Cuffee-Glenn played an important role and two of the three agencies responded by withdrawing their "negative outlook".
