newport news: Hampton Roads #5 of 50 for Working Mothers - 10/18/11 09:37 AM
Forbes magazine has ranked Hampton Roads #5 of 50 metropolitan areas for working mothers.  Hampton Roads includes Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Hampton and Newport News. The criteria was varied but includes such things as number of physicians, school-district-per-pupil expenditures and violent crime rates as reported by the FBI.
A steady paycheck is nice but included in the criteria was a healthy employment rate, safety, health care and education.  I don't think they included weather in the criteria because Buffalo-Niagra was #1.
Richmond was seventh and D.C. was 9th.  Raleigh, N.C. was 41st and Jacksonville, Fl was 37th (the Navy wants … (0 comments)

newport news: Short Sale in Newport News Finally Done - 10/19/09 09:25 PM
My short sale in Newport News is finally done.  It has been going on since Feb 2009.  Thank goodness I had a negotiator working the deal for me, Julian Properties.  The first mortgage company was impossible and the second mortgage company was insane.  Once we had approval from them the buyer (only the second one) had to go back through the loan process again as well as another termite inspection.  Then to top it all off we had a water leak in the vacant house.  Everyone stuck with it and made it happen.  The selling agent, Stephanie Hill, was just great.  … (0 comments)

newport news: Green The Camry Way - 07/19/08 07:16 PM

<table bgcolor="#faebd7" border="4" bordercolor="#FF0000" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" width="100%"> <tbody> <tr> <td valign="top">  NEWPORT NEWS - Maybe a hundred homeowners came to City Council chambers on Tuesday night, pleading with council members not to rush into adopting the city's new spending plan and demanding to further cut the city's real estate tax rate. Much to their chagrin, they left without getting the cut they wanted. The council passed 6-1 its new $790.3 million budget, which will goes into effect July 1 and includes a small 10-cent tax rate cut to $1.10 for every $100 of assessed value.
