Simple Advice for Buyers and Sellers -- KEEP YOUR PAPERWORK!! - 07/25/11 12:48 PM
I just loved the message of Carla Muss-Jacob's latest post, Simple Advice for Buyers and Sellers  --  Keep Your Paperwork!!.  As a mortgage lender, I can only add a loud "hear hear" and enthusiastic applause to this post!
Keeping your mortgage documents and papers is smart for many reasons.  Obviously, for legal and financial reasons it's important to keep them safely protected within your home, bank box, or a firebox.  But keeping your documents can also be extremely helpful in the future should you decide to sell.  Having all the paperwork, such as surveys, title policy, etc. can possibly prove a savings monetarily at that … (6 comments)

CONDOMINIUMS: Love 'em or Leave 'em. Views From the Differing Angles ... - 07/24/11 06:43 PM

Condos:  Love 'em or Leave 'em
Viewing Condominiums From the Differing Angles:
Buyer, Seller, Condominium Association, Lender, Appraiser

For Buyers:  Condominiums can be a great way to participate in the American Dream of Home Ownership.  Buying a condominium ends throwing away money on rent.
Condominiums allow first-time home buyers an affordable  entrance into the housing market that a single-family residence might not.  Yet, it offers them a lifestyle that eliminates maintenance of landscaping and property exteriors.
Condominiums can provide that intermediate entrance into owning property and one where they can learn the "art of home ownership".  They can dip their … (9 comments)

Teaching Good Money Habits. Sesame Street Can Help ... - 07/21/11 04:48 PM

Given the recent additions to our family, these days my wife and I are watching Sesame Street once again.  Always big fans when our 2 boys were little, we find ourselves renewing our affection for this program and its characters, both old and new.
Our grandchildren are fascinated by this wonderful show.  It's amazing to see their little faces light-up when their favorite characters arrive onscreen.  Marilyn, the older child, likes to dance when the music starts-up.  You can see her little brain just "clicking" as she takes it all in.  I know each child's father was much the … (18 comments)

I just had a customer ripped off by a mover - 07/19/11 12:15 PM

After reading Debbie Gartner's latest blog regarding her client's horrendous problem with a moving company ... I thought perhaps the best assistance I could offer would be found in re-blogging the story itself.
Should you, or someone you know, faced this experience in the past ... please let Debbie know as to how you handled and solved the problem.  Her client will be well-served by your input and advice.  We'll all learn from your experiences.
But as I said, the best solutions and assistance to be found are right within this re-blogging of Debbie's post.  Heed the warning sounded here!  Doing so may prevent this terrible … (6 comments)

When Buying a Home, Retain the Services of an Experienced, Knowledgeable REAL ESTATE Attorney. There IS a Difference in the Counsel You Retain … - 07/18/11 02:13 PM

I've been reminded several times over the last couple of weeks of just how important it is for new home buyers to have an experienced real estate specific attorney at their side throughout their home buying experience and home closing.
I've had closings where a top-knotch real estate attorney has been in attendance.  It's been obvious that they've interacted with our mutual clients throughout their entire home buying transaction.  They (or their office) has continually and actively interacted with me, their client's lender, throughout processing.
During the home closing itself, they've been engaged and interacted with everyone at the closing … (2 comments)

The importance of having hospital and healthcare services within a community cannot be overstated.  Whether it's providing 24-hour emergency medical services, sources for community health education, immunizations, physicals, exercise and fitness opportunities, rehabilitation opportunities, counseling, or other services ... hospitals and medical healthcare servicers enhance the safety and quality of life of all those living and visiting the region.
To that end, Edward Hospital in Naperville, IL recently announced that it has created the Edward Ambulance Services.  This new service is being offered in tandem with Community Emergency Medical Service Inc., located in Southfield, Michigan.  Non-911 ambulance transportation … (8 comments)

"That Just Ain't Right". Examining Your Marketing Methods and Services ... - 07/12/11 12:53 PM

Periodically, our cable will run the "Blue Collar Comedy Tour". That was the case once again this last week. And although we've seen the show multiple times, my wife and I found ourselves once again chuckling our way through the jokes.     During one skit, Jeff Foxworthy speaks of the mailbox in front of his boyhood home. Supposedly someone had painted the word "male" on it. He jokes that somewhere around his 11th year of school, it dawns on him that "that just ain't right"! (Punchline: Why ain't it right? The "m" is supposed to be capitalized!)     … (50 comments)

Errors and Disputes on Credit Reports. How and When to Move Forward ... - 07/07/11 09:21 PM
I ran across the following issue with a recent client.  After running their credit, we discovered what appeared to be an error on it.  Positive that it was indeed an error, they wanted to address the problem immediately.
My suggestion to these clients was to do nothing ... right now.              I know.  That sounds contrary to what common sense would dictate you do.  But in this particular case, it was the best thing to advise for their current situation.       Why did I make this suggestion?  Why not address and clear-up their credit error immediately?  Get the ball rolling??  Certainly this … (8 comments)

"Extreme" Mortgaging and .... Couponing. Time and Effort Well Spent ... - 07/05/11 02:29 PM
Sunday's Chicago Tribune ran an article  regarding a woman named, Jill Cataldo. Jill is considered a coupon queen. She offers, via her website, a blog, news venues, and both live and dvd seminars, instructions on what has come to be known as "extreme couponing".  What she prefers to call coupon-advice.
One of her recent live presentations (a four-hour event held in South Carolina) was attended by over 2500 people that wanted to hear her advice and learn her methods for saving money through utilization of coupons.        Here are a few interesting statistics I found regarding today's  popular "couponing":       Every hour spent couponing … (42 comments)
