Living in Brentwood – Brentwood Parks – Brentwood Memorial Park - 06/30/09 05:08 PM
Brentwood Memorial Park is on Balfour at the corner of Griffin. The Brentwood Swim Center and Brentwood Senior Center set on the same site. There is plenty of off street parking.
Near the entrance at end of the parking lot the park features a rose garden and a series of flags commemorating those that have served this country. The main flag pole has the US Flag, California Flag, and a POW Flag. Then there are six more flags for the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and the Merchant Marine.
The park has a lot of large open space and … (0 comments)

What is your Patriotic Duty on July 4th? What will you do? - 06/29/09 02:59 PM
July 4th is coming up.  This is a day when we celebrate the birth of freedom in this country.  Most people have an enjoyable day and if we are lucky it is part of a nice three day weekend.  We enjoy the good things God has given us as a people; we BBQ, camp, swim, go boating, fishing, hiking, watch a parade, enjoy the fireworks and have a picnic.
Liberty is in trouble.  She is being threatened from within and by our own leaders.  The things that are going on are the biggest threat to our country since the Civil War, … (0 comments)

Johnny, Ed, Doc and all the wanna bees - 06/25/09 03:28 PM
Last night I watched the Tonight Show for the second time in a week.  I have not watched it on a regular basis in a long time, there is no regular late night television for me.
When I was a young man I loved to set up and watch Johnny, Ed and Doc yuck it up.  I really thought Doc was funny and even liked it when Ed was on Vacation so I could see more of Doc and Tommy over in the band.  Nothing against Ed, he was great and helped Johnny be even funnier, I just liked Doc and … (1 comments)

Living in Brentwood – Dinner’s, Drive Ins, and Dives – El Camino Restaurant - 06/25/09 12:24 PM
The other night my wife and I went to a small Mexican place, the El Camino at 6611 Brentwood Blvd in Brentwood. Near the corner of Lone Tree. I had eaten here years ago when Brentwood was a small farm town and I came out this way to adjust insurance claims.  I had long forgotten about the place, but I should not have.
The El Camino is a very simple place with an authentic south west/Mexican motif.  They do not take credit cards, it is cash only, but there is an ATM machine in the restaurant.
The menu is a full … (0 comments)

SHOULD I PAY MY MORTGAGE? - 06/23/09 09:12 PM
This is a question I get all the time.  The answer here is the best one I have seen to the question.
Via Richard Zaretsky, Florida Real Estate Attorney (Richard P. Zaretsky P.A. ):
This seems to be THE NUMBER ONE question I get.  Unfortunately there are several answers and which  is correct for you depends on the Circumstances.  I will address the common scenarios in this article.
Policy in my office is to never "tell" - as in "instruct" - our borrower client to pay or not to pay their mortgage.  Paying or not paying has a lot of collateral effects … (0 comments)

Penny Wise and Pound Foolish - How not to sell your home! - 06/22/09 07:24 PM
I had a minor fender bender the other day and took the car into the shop this afternoon.  I wanted to see if the damage was over my deductible before I called the Insurance Company.  Sure enough it was.  The bumper on a Toyota van is over $700.00, and there may be hidden damage.  So I call the insurance company and set up the claim from the shop.  I declined to use my rental car company as I figured it will only take a couple of days.
Guess again.  I asked on my way out the door.  It will take at … (1 comments)

Urgent - How you can help the People in Iran NOW with Twitter. - 06/21/09 11:34 PM
I understand the government forces in Iran are tracking twitter users based on the time settings for the accounts.  They are also using Bloger location as a way to track.  Set your Twitter Account to Terhan and GMT +3.30.

I do not know if this is a hoax, but it sounds real.

Private Enterprise and Market Responsiveness - Or Profits of Doom! - 06/18/09 10:56 AM
What is going on in the lending market place is an example of why the Government needs to keep hands off.  I do not want to go back over the past - we can and have hashed that one around too long, except to say the government was part of the problem from day one.
What I want to talk about is Today and the problems in the lending market and business in general.  In most industries when there is an innovation or some new market develops everyone hops on it.  People and products come out of the wood work to … (0 comments)

What are the Rangers Doing in East Contra Costa County? - 06/17/09 02:57 PM
My kids are part of a great group called Royal Rangers. Royal Rangers is a ministry put together by the Assembly of God Church, but is used by many independent churches too. In short think of it as something like Boy Scouts mixed with bible study and a focus on Christian Living.

Rangers at Fort Ross
I was an Eagle Scout and The Boy Scouts of America was very important to me. However, as a parent I wanted my kids to have the same experiences I had in the outdoors and to learn the same skills I did, with training … (0 comments)

What makes a Garage "Inspirational"? - 06/13/09 02:41 PM
This is just a really cool blog I found on Active Rain about Garages.  Enjoy.
Via Lane Bailey - REALTOR & Car Guy (Diamond Dwellings Realty):
Image by genevievepan via Flickr There are basically three kinds of garages...
Places to store stuff Places to work on stuff Places to display stuff Most garages are storage sheds. They hold tools, lawn mowers, cars, sporting goods, cleaning supplies and overflow food in the chest freezer.
The next most common group are working garages. Whether it is building a hot rod or keeping the family rides in tune, they have tools and parts and more … (0 comments)

The East Contra Costa Market is Taking Off! - 06/12/09 02:23 PM
Every Month I prepare a Market Report on the Cities in East Contra Costa County. If you are considering Living in Contra Costa County East County is an affordable and quality option.
I have been cautioning for months now that the market is ready to turn. Now it has. Prices on a SF basis are up by 1-2% in a one month period. My reports focus on the Communities of Brentwood CA, Antioch CA, Pittsburg CA, Oakley CA, and Discovery Bay CA.
Part of this increase is due to the decline in the Bank Owned Home market. But more Bank Owned … (0 comments)

How do you figure! What is that home worth? - 06/07/09 11:33 PM
Figuring the value of a home and what price to list it at can be one of the biggest challenges we face as agents. If you read my post you know that price per SF is a number I like. It is not perfect, but it is a good starting point.
Just to give you an idea of some of the considerations and agent may use, I had a client in East Contra Costa County call me about a home evaluation. In this market there are rapid price changes and it is wise to try to find very recent comps. I … (0 comments)

This Market hasn’t changed a bit in three years! - 06/07/09 07:02 PM
You think I am kidding. How could things not change in one of the worst markets in history? Well I am in Brentwood California and I did my research. Here are the facts:
Three years ago you could hardly find any properties around here for $500,000.00.
Today I checked the MLS again and you can still hardly find any properties for $500,000.00.
The more things change the more they stay the same!

A Fantastic New Product for Home Owners! Really Trust Me! - 06/05/09 01:15 PM
The modern home is getting more and more complex. There are more things to maintain and more things to do on a regular basis. Have you ever bought a new home? Have you seen the maintenance package that comes with it – the list of everything you need to do to care for your home? Do you do those things?
Tell me:
When was the last time you changed your furnace filter? Do you know how often you should? Sealed your granite counter tops? How often should you? Sealed the grout? How often should you? Checked your toilet seals? How often … (0 comments)

Internet Dating - Getting Around the Pounds! Or is that the house in the Picture? - 06/05/09 12:02 PM
We all like to put our best foot forward. The same is true when selling a home. Lisa Bosques did an excellent blog on deceptive photos posted by Real Estate Agents. I agree with her completely, but where is the line?
I met my wife on line and it was a great way for us to meet. However, I constantly hear disaster stories about deception; this is especially true of photos. Now when I sent photos to my wife to be did I suck in my gut? Yes I did and this is getting harder and harder to do. Did I … (1 comments)

Out of Area Listing Agents are hard on Everyone! - 06/04/09 03:06 PM
I did a survey of the Homes for Sale in Brentwood, CA last month and found 40 Bank Owned Homes for Sale. Then I looked at who the Listing Agents are on these properties. Half of those agents are from out of the area; some from as far away as Los Angeles.
People not in the business probably do not know you do not have to be a local professional to buy a membership in the local MLS to List and Sell homes.
I am sympathetic to the banks on some points, but the way the banks handle real estate is … (1 comments)
