assemblymember kevin jeffries: California's Water Crisis - Kicked Down the Road 2 More Years - 08/10/10 04:32 PM
Well, there was some question as to whether it would happen or not but apparently little Johnny got his way so the $11 billion water bond initiative will be pulled from November's ballot.
Good riddance... or not.
Many (myself included) would argue that we desperately need this bond to pass so we can start to address the chronic water problems that plague this state. And when I say 'desperately need' to do this, I'm not just whistling Dixie. The construction of additional storage damns is critical, the implementation of an alternative conveyance method (i.e. peripheral canal) should have been done … (2 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: Another $40 Billion in Tax Increases? You Ready California? - 05/03/10 08:32 AM
Ahhhh, the tax & spend boys in Sacramento are at it again. $40 billion in proposed new taxes including the 3% withholding on Independent Contractors again. This is much easier than actually cutting spending or acting in a rational and prudent manner.  All you people voting for these liberal spenders, WHY?
Kevin's Corner Are You Ready For The Big One?      I don't mean for the big one (earthquake) on the San Andreas fault line (although you should be ready), I mean are you ready for the big California Budget fight? Ahhh, I bet your first thought was "I couldn't … (0 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: Debt Foregiveness? Watch Out For The Strings! - 04/09/10 12:22 PM
108 pages! 108 mind-numbing, single-spaced goddam pages!
The goal was simple - bring California's tax code regarding debt forgiveness - specifically regarding short-sales and foreclosures - into conformity with federal tax code.
In Sacramento nothing is simple, folks.
I was on a conference call with CAR Chief Lobbyist Alex Creel yesterday when he broke in to announce that both our Senate and Assembly had rushed a bill through and sent it to the Governor for signature. This was a 'cleaned-up' version of a bill the Gov. vetoed a couple weeks ago because it had a bunch of frivolous crap … (4 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: Inmate Release Makes Communities Safer - Realtors® Beware/Be Aware - 04/07/10 07:44 PM
The headline in today's Californian sums it up pretty accurately - 'Violent Parolees not being watched'. Of course you've been keeping up with this prisoner release debacle that has saddled our state after the passage of AB 3X 14 last year. As many as 40,000 inmates will be released into our streets and cities and the exodus has begun.
You may recall we were assured by the lying hypocrites that voted for it (21 Democrats. all 15 Republicans and 4 Democrats voted NO) that NO 'violent criminals' would be released. At the time the bill was passed I published a partial … (6 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: Legislative Summit - Are You Part of the Solution or the Problem? - 03/31/10 02:35 PM
Photos courtesy of Kristin Fuller Local Legislators Hold Summit on Jobs & Regulations, Part 1Local Legislators Hold Summit on Jobs & Regulations, Part 2Local Legislators Hold Summit on Jobs & Regulations, Part 3Just a couple final comments on the recent Legislative Summit that didn't make it to print in my newspaper article. Businessman after businessman told stories about specific impacts to their business from California's over-regulatory climate. A local news paper publisher told how his company could actually hire additional people if they weren't constrained by overtime and break rules. They have people who would prefer to work flex schedules of … (2 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: Local Legislators Hold Summit on Jobs & Regulations, Pt 2 - 03/31/10 12:12 PM
Legislative Summit - continued from Part 1
L to R: Brian Hawley, Greater Riverside C of C, Roger Ziemer, Southwest California Legislative Council, Mark Knorringa, Riverside County Building Industry
Panelists repeatedly pointed to onerous regulations and taxes as the primary factors impacting businesses in the (formerly) Golden State. It was referred to as the ‘circle of insanity’ where revenues are down so businesses get taxed and regulated more so they leave the state which leads to reduced revenues so businesses get taxed… well, you understand. They cautioned Legislators – “when someone is drowning you throw them a life preserver, not an … (0 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: Upskirt Perv's Are OK in Tom Ammiano's Book. - 03/10/10 06:54 PM
In a week when the bodies of two teenage girls victimized by sexual predators were discovered almost in our backyard, the California Legislature killed a Kevin Jeffries bill that would have required people to register as a sex offender if they are convicted of using a hidden camera or cell phone to take pictures for sexual pleasure.
That same week, 2 local residents were arrested for taking photographs under womens dresses and up a girls skirt at local businesses. Yet even if convicted they would not appear on the roles as sexual predators. Their computers could be full of these … (3 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: Southwest California Legislative Council Takes Position on Early Bills - 02/22/10 06:48 PM

The Southwest California Legislative Council, with whom SRCAR is an advocacy partner, today adopted the following positions on current/pending legislation:
Support - ACA 30 (Jeffries) To abolish the office of Lieutenant Governor.     Self explanatory - this largely ceremonial position requires salary & staff expenses and the duties could be consolidated with the Secretary of State.Support - AB 1671 (Jeffries) To prevent the Governor from appointing vacancies on the County Board of Supervisors.    A recent example in Riverside County left us without the ability to pass certain bills at the county level while Sacramento played politics with us. Our local positions should … (0 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: CA Assemblyman Jeffries Introduces Reform Package - 01/29/10 05:17 PM
66th District Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries has introduced a series of bills and constitutional amendments that seek to reform some of what's wrong in  Sacramento. Until we replace about 2/3 of the legislature with honest citizen legislators on a part-time basis we won't be able to resolve all the issues but this package is a good start.
Yesterday I wrote about AB 1672 which seeks to make the powerful and unaccountable Air Resources Board an elected body instead of the current patronage appointee body. Jeffries has five others in the hopper which, unfortunately, make too much sense to gain much traction in … (3 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: Jeffries AB 1672 - Good Medicine for an Ailing State - 01/28/10 01:35 PM
When asked if she was concerned about the adverse impact her committees recommendations would have on jobs in the state, California Air Resources Board Chair Mary Nichols responded that 'if I had to worry about running for election I would, but I don't.'  SWEET!
If 66th Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries has anything to say about it,  Ms. Nichols might soon be trying to figure out how to get a job of her own. Jeffries has authored AB 1672 in an effort to reign in the powerful, yet completely unaccountable California Air Resources Board changing it from an appointed board to an elected … (6 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: WATER & POWER. California politics at its depressing best. - 10/15/09 07:40 PM
When you start your day attending two meetings where the speakers apologize for being depressing, the rest of your day can only improve.  That was my day today.
I started with an early morning meeting of the Southwest California Economic Development Corporation where we were treated to remarks by John Rossi, General Manager of Western Municipal Water District. Apologizing for depressing us, John presented a factual summary of where our state is waterwise and how the water districts are dealing with our current situation. Having toured the Northern end of our state water supply system last year from Oroville Dam to … (1 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: 2009 Temecula Valley Legislative Summit - Follow the Water. - 10/02/09 03:48 PM
On a day when, ironically, the Obama administration summoned state officials and interest groups to a lecture from the Colorado Cowboy Hat about California water issues, the Temecula Chamber of Commerce presented its 2009 Legislative Summit. If the giant water spigot overshadowing everything was too subtle for you, the fact that the only two speakers this year were Tim Quinn, Executive Director of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA); and Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries, who was recently appointed to the (bi)-partisan, joint committee charged with producing a workable bill to resolve the states current water crisis should have given you a … (0 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: Californian's - Lend Your Support to ACA 8 - 08/10/09 08:40 PM

It's been seven months since Assemblymember Kevin Jeffries (R-Lake Elsinore) introduced ACA 8. This bill would prohibit the Legislature from voting on bills without giving the public 72 hour notice of the content and an opportunity to comment. The bill goes on to require that ALL bills be available in print for at least 24 hours prior to a Legislative vote. You can read the full bill here: ACA 8
But so far, ACA 8 has yet to receive its first hearing. "I find it ironic that a bill that would put an end to back room deals is … (0 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: CAR Legislative Day - Some Good, Some Bad & Some Ugly - 06/09/09 12:02 PM
I'll be posting more specifics for you from our Sacramento Legislative trip last week, but just wanted to share a couple observations.
Wednesday was Legislative Day. In addition to our CAR Directors, we always bring up a few folks with us for that day - folks who have made an investment in our Realtor Action Fund of at least $197. It's always a great day - including a terrific speech by former  (and future?) Governor Jerry Brown, legislative updates from our lobbyists, our march on the capitol photo op, visits with our Legislators and the Capitol Reception in the evening. For … (4 comments)

assemblymember kevin jeffries: Assemblymember Kevin Jeffries Responds to Schwarznegger's Threat to 'Let the State Burn'. - 05/08/09 01:02 PM
Some of you probably heard the latest musing from the empty suit that used to be Arnold Schwarzenegger the other day. In his latest pandering to the unions in pursuit of more taxes, he warned of dire consequences from the failure of Propositions 1A - 1E. Specifically he took the opportunity at the beginning of Fire Prevention Week, in the backyard of the Santa Barbara fires, to note that if the props didn't pass it would mean automatic cuts to fire protection statewide including cutting some 1,700 firefighters, closing 30+ fire stations and on and on with the fear mongering.
Any … (0 comments)
