california budget: California Association of Realtors asks Gov & Legislators - let the people decide. - 03/16/11 07:42 PM
C.A.R. today sent a letter to Gov. Jerry Brown and members of the California Legislature asking them to place the Governor’s budget framework on the June ballot.  The Governor’s budget framework calls for a $26 billion solution - half in the form of budget cuts and half in the form of revenue from the extension of existing taxes.
C.A.R. has not taken a position in support of tax extensions, but is only in support of putting the tax extensions on the June ballot to let California voters decide.
For more information, contact Christopher Carlisle, C.A.R.'s legislative advocate at (916) 492-5200.

california budget: Kaw Lee Four Nya iss in da Krappa (again). - 12/17/09 07:10 PM
I can hardly wait until after the first of the year when our legislators finally admit what we've known since the last budget was passed a few months ago - we're another $20+ billion in the hole.
Let's see... Maybe the liberal Democrats running the show will actually stand up to their union handlers and make some real cuts.
Maybe they'll really eliminate some of the deadwood instead of hiring more.
Maybe they'll decide to cut money from education administration and use it for our students.
Maybe they'll actually eliminate a few of the worthless commissions and committees that regulate industries … (5 comments)

california budget: Howard Jarvis Group releases 10 worst tax gimmicks of 2009. - 12/16/09 01:18 PM
The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association has just published their 10 worst tax gimmicks of 2009 in California. In this state it's got to be a challenge to narrow it down to just 10 - we have such a plethora to choose from.
I do believe they missed the boat on #9 however. California's marijuana harvest rivals or surpasses most other agricultural crops in the state in both revenue and quality, and all that potential tax revenue is just going up in smoke. Add to that all the money spent on our ineffective 'War on Drugs' and the millions wasted prosecuting and … (4 comments)

california budget: Sen Hollingsworth Helps Gov. Arnie Find His Lost Balls. - 07/29/09 12:27 PM
You've frequently heard me refer to the Otto von Bismark quote about laws and sausages being two things people are better off not seeing made in person. Well, the LA Times published an article yesterday on the sausage making process we just witnessed in Sacramento.  The Times also had some carefully parsed words for our own Senator Hollingsworth. While they were careful to maintain their liberally correct stance by pointing out how conservative Hollingsworth is and what an unusual alliance he has formed both with the Governor and his Chief of Staff, they did admit that Hollingsworth is usually the first … (0 comments)

california budget: CA Thanks the Responsible States - New Budget is already $8 BIL under water. - 03/13/09 05:57 PM
Hmmmm, didn't CA Republicans tell us this was going to happen 2 - 3 weeks ago? I know I've told you about it a couple times as passed along to me by Sen.'s Hollingsworth and Benoit as well as Rep. Jeffries. The new budget simply doesn't work. I paraphrase Sen. Hollingsworth when he was elevated to Senate Minority Leader during the last budget farrago. "You can't balance California's budget on the taxpayers wallets," a cry that, unfortunately, fell on deaf ears.
"Regarding the budget - the recently concluded budget negotiations. which had gone on since last May and threatened to grind … (10 comments)

california budget: California Governor Speaks. WOOF! - 02/19/09 08:06 PM

California's Governor Schwarzenkennedy today issued the following profound statement  on the 'historic' budget package'.
He was surrounded by his pals the Democratic Leaders of the House & Senate

and new BFF RINO Maldonado
I think this gives us a much clearer picture of exactly what the Governor meant last month when he discussed the 'four legged approach to balancing the budget.
“This four-legged approach will balance our budget, make government more efficient, and help stimulate our economy by putting people to work.” (Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, 1/7/09)

california budget: California's New Taxes. How Much More Are YOU Willing to Pay? - 02/18/09 01:44 PM
Senator George Runner, one of the Republicans actually standing up on our behalf in Sacramento with Senator Hollingsworth, published this message from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association. If you do the math, you'll find that while you may or may  not qualify for the recently enacted federal tax reduction scam ($80k single, $150k family), you will get to cough up more than your rebate amount in new California taxes. Best case - if you qualify for the full $800 tax break from Obama you'd better save that extra $13/week that's supposed to show up in your paycheck because you'll need every … (15 comments)

california budget: Don't Cry For Me Caw Lee Fornya - 02/06/09 10:09 PM
I just listened to the news - both local and national, and after some discussions of the massive stimulus/bail-out package (heh heh, he said massive package) there was a great deal of concern evidenced by the talking heads about the dire straits of the California economy. Wow, there's a news story, eh?
But the reason it was in the headlines today was that today marked the first 'furlough' day for some state workers in California. Yep, that's right, starting today some state offices will be closed every other Friday in a bid to shave $16.94 from the state's $42 Billion budget … (17 comments)

california budget: California State of the State - Short But Missing The Point - 01/15/09 05:24 PM
I imagine you were all glued to the tube this morning or, like me, linked in via webcast to hear our Governor deliver his 'State of the State' speech. No? Am I the only one with no life here and a jones for politics?
Well, you didn't miss much. Really. It was over and done in about 10 minutes. At a time when our state faces some of the gravest challenges to our economy, jobs, HOUSING, etc., the Governator spoke for just over 10 minutes. Didn't have much to say anyway.
After spending the first couple minutes sucking up to President-elect … (8 comments)

california budget: 12/19 Realtor Update... Cynicism & Hypocrisy - Democrats Best Hope. - 12/18/08 06:45 PM
12/19 Update: As if this weren't bad enough, the bill also contains a provision that would tax independent contractors up front. That means Realtors would have 3% of every commission check automatically withheld. At the end of the year of course, you get to fight to get that back but in the meanwhile, the state has been using your money interest free and you are out the income, the interest and the ability to spend and/or invest. The Governor has threatened he will veto his bill but the legislature has already departed for their well deserved Christmasn vacation. Let's hope they … (12 comments)
