music: Thanks For The Memories - Record Album Time Machine - 12/29/09 06:20 PM
My wife got me an ION Vinyl Archiving Turntable for Christmas this year. My last turntable crapped out about 15 years ago and I just never replaced it in spite of the 2 boxes of records I still lug around. (Note: if you're under 30, a record is a 12" round black plastic disc. It's a little thicker than a CD and it has lots of tiny grooves cut into it on both sides. The grooves are where the music is and you have to flip it over to hear the other side. They could hold about 10 or 15 songs. You … (6 comments)

music: It's A Beautiful Day - In Concert. - 10/05/08 02:09 PM
10-5 beautiful day Last night Jon & Jane Laskin of the Musicians Workshop presented another of their fabulous In-Home Concerts at an estate home in Tenaja. About 150 people came out on a cool, rainy evening to enjoy the sounds of It's  Beautiful Day. If you're not familiar with the band, leader David LaFlamme started this band in 1967 in San Francisco. Though they never quite reached the peak of fame of some of their contemporaries like Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service or the Grateful Dead, their main anthem "White Bird" is easily recognizable to those of you who lived … (9 comments)

music: Today's Best NY Times Headline - for laughs. - 04/08/08 05:39 PM
A biker is riding by the zoo, when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion's cage.  Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.
The biker  jumps off his bike, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch. Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly.
A NY Times reporter has seen the whole scene, and addressing the … (10 comments)

music: Just A Box Of Rain - Not For DeadHeads Only - 04/08/08 05:07 PM
I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and we got to reminiscing, as Old Dudes sometimes do, and we soon settled on a topic of mutual interest - The Grateful Dead. Now my friend is about as button-down looking as you get, a suit-and-tie kind of Realtor, brush-cut hair, well respected in his community, active in his Association, very successful but with a crazy gleam in his eyes - if you look closely.
Well, he gets to telling me about the first Dead show he went to in '68 and the copious amount of pharmaceuticals that were present … (11 comments)

music: Maria Muldaur concert - 02/10/08 10:37 PM
We've got this great little jazz group in our town that works with kids from age 3 on up teaching them music, instruments, voice, dance, etc. It's called Musicians Workshop and they are truly an asset to our community. One of their girls was on American Idol last year, other alumni have been on and won a variety of TV talent contests, etc.
One of their fundraisers that they've been doing for the past 7 years is called an In-Home Concert where they get a big house out in the Wine Country or up in the hills and hold a concert … (1 comments)

music: Bob Dylan in Concert - 08/09/07 07:38 PM
I just spent July at my home in Telluride, Colorado. If you haven't been there, you should make it a point to because it is a drop dead gorgeous place about 9,000 ft. up in the Colorado Rockies. Bob Dylan happened to be there while I was and he put on a great concert in our outdoor ampitheater under the stars. As you might expect from Dylan, it was an experience not to be missed - especially since one never kn ows how long the Dude will keep traveling around sharing his songs.
I know he's on a lengthy tour right now, … (1 comments)
