We all have those wonderful new years resolutions - some are the same ones that we never get done, but they stay on the list anyway. Most deal with losing weight and working out, being healthier next year. One of our friends is on the weight watcher's point system so my wife ask her if she could give her some foods that did not have any points that she could eat while on vacation in January. She excluded vegetables and fruits as my wife doesn't particularly like them. Well, that pretty much leaves air, bottled water, tap water, garden hose water...... … (0 comments)

Colorado has a small moose population that is growing. Typically the few moose that we have can be found on the Western Slope or the West side of the Continental Divide if you know where to look. Occasionally over the past few years we have had some bulls that wander over to the Eastern side of the Continental Divide looking for love. Once they figure out they are lost they typically head back up the Poudre Canyon for the West side. Recently we have had some sightings of some moose around Estes Park. We are headed for the "Street Fair" today at the College of the Desert. PaPa seemed pretty excited about that last night. Supposed to be around 68 degrees for the event so he will like that a lot. Suzie has him all pumped up to get some caramel corn - I think that is more because she wants it than PaPa does.
When we got here we weren't sure they were going to let us into the complex because our car was so dirty. They have a camera that reads your license plate but we didn't pass the test. The … (1 comments)

I went to Dillon yesterday and stopped to take this shot. It shows the snow line that is already forming in Colorado. The ski resorts were already making snow on top of the fresh snow that has fallen. Snow Line in the Colorado Rockies It looks like it is going to be a terrific year to ski Colorado. Fresh snow on the Continental Divide highlighted by the fall foliage of the trees in this picture is really a great way to start the day. When you live in Estes Park Colorado you get to do this every day.

Just a quick update on the Estes Park, Colorado upcoming Elk Fest and our "Fine" Fall weather. I was talking to a very nice lady at the Hallmark store yesterday and she said that this is the best fall weather we have had in 78 years.

We were experiencing some warm weather this week, and it finally cooled off. When I went to lunch today it really cooled off, suddenly to 61 degrees. We typically don't get hail in Estes Park, but today was the exception.
Hail Outside the Prudential Office
High Altitude Hail I really couldn't believe that we actually had some 1/2 inch hail that was solid. Typically we get something in the 1/4 inch range that is nothing more than slush. This was actual hard frozen hail - very unusual for Estes Park.

When you walk out on your deck and see this in your front yard you know you are not in Kansas Dorothy.
Mom and her babies I was going outside to light the grill and attempt to burn something when I noticed that our yard was full of elk. there were five cows, but only two babies. I'm sure that we'll be having some more young elk joining us shortly.

There is a Visitors Center, and a Gift Shop & Coffee Shop underneath all of that snow. Trail Ridge Road was opened this weekend, but the Visitors Center and Gift Shop will be a couple more days.
Pictured above is the Trail Ridge Visitors center, still buried under a lot of snow.
This is the East Door to the Visitors Center on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. I think they have some more shoveling to do before they can get tourists inside.

Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous highway in the United States traveling through Rocky Mountain National Park along the "Old Ute Trail". Each year the National Park tries to have the road open by Memorial Day.

In this picture cars are driving between the drifts created when road crews cleaned off the highway.
This drift is on the top near the visitors center in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was 30 degrees colder at the summit than it was in Estes Park. … (2 comments)

Tiny Town golf in Estes Park has been family entertainment for decades - five and a half decades to be exact. Bob Mitchell opens his golf course every year and the same familes come back to wish him well and play a few rounds of golf.
Bob Mitchell obviously has a great sense of humor. You probably can't read all of the slogans and signs on the board near the office. The one directly above and to the right of the golf balls reads "Shirt Required - pants and shoes optional.

"Prices Going Up" I'm sure if you have been to Estes Park, you have golfed at Tiny Town. I stopped by to visit with Mr. Mitchell this weekend. I'm sure he wouldn't want to be called Mr. Mitchell, but everyone that left the course said "Thanks Mr. Mitchell".
