walnut creek real estate: A Blog About Blogging - 10/15/09 10:53 AM
We just saw the movie, Julie and Julia, and if you are any kind of blogger, you mus see this film. Apart from the fact that we simply enjoyed it, it spoke alot about posting blogs. I guess alot of what we write is probably just filling space, but I guess there are alot of people doing serious writing out there. The heroine of the movie Julie is an un-fulfilled writer, and is living in a vacuum. She loves cooking and food, and decides that she will start a major project; she will cook every recipe in "Mastering the Art of … (7 comments)

walnut creek real estate: Beware of Craigslist Scammers - 09/21/09 05:26 PM
I was made aware this morning of crooks who are taking advantage of your listings that you put on Craigslist, and offering them as rentals. I heard they are taking your verbiage, and offering them out as rentals really cheap, taking deposit money and disappearing. ON YOUR LISTINGS! Yikes.
We should all be aware of this. If people are going to steal, they're going to steal. But maybe we can stop them if we are vigilant.

walnut creek real estate: Walnut Creek Realtor Actually Answers His Phone! - 09/16/09 12:24 AM
Is there something wrong with me? When the phone rings, I answer it. I like talking to people. That's why I got into the Real Estate business, in the first place.
I know alot of my contemoraries like to leave a smarmy little message at the end of the work day: "Thanks for calling, bla, bla, bla." " Your call is important to me, bla, bla, bla."  "If you're calling after 7:00, i'll return your call in the morning, bla, bla, bla."
Most of my clients are putting thenselves on the line, by attempting to buy or sell a house. The least … (6 comments)

walnut creek real estate: Current Medical Care Situation is Affecting Your Net Worth - 08/29/09 10:46 AM
If you weren't paying such a huge premium for your Health Insurance, could you "buy up" to the house you really want?  Whenever I hear folks talking about how expensive health care is going to be under Obama's plan (as if they have actually read his plan), I wonder what planet they might be living on right now. As a Real Estate professional, I pay for my own health insurance. In the last 4-5 years my premiums have doubled. Much to my dismay, my income has not doubled.
Every time I speak with people who think the status quo is acceptable, … (2 comments)

walnut creek real estate: Walnut Creek Foreclosure Dog - 08/28/09 01:53 PM
The upside of the housing collapse, is that My dog, Elvis, whom I rescued at Animal Rescue Foundation in Walnut Creek, was a foreclosure dog.  Almost all of the dogs came from the San Joaquin Valley, where they were abandoned by their owners, who could no longer stay in their homes.
Every time I look at him, I can't stop thinking how he is the embodiment of an Option ARM, or a Stated Income loan. It is hard to believe that people would just abandon their pets, but there ya go!
I wish Elvis could tell me a little about the family that … (8 comments)

walnut creek real estate: Walnut Creek Dog Realtor - 08/20/09 08:33 PM
If dogs could buy and sell houses, would you want to work with them? I know there would be a few problems: "Hey Fido, when are you going to get those tax docs to the lender?" "What do you mean you buried them in the yard, and can't remember where?"
"Rover, I know we're looking for a house with a carpet that smells like urine, but we won't know until we go into the house, will we?"
" I know you're a loyal client, but I'm sick of throwing the tennis ball, already"
"Is my paw print a valid signiture?"

walnut creek real estate: Some Thoughts about Broker's Tour - 08/11/09 09:56 AM
I always amazes me when you take the time to go to a home on Brokers Tour, only to find that it is a "no-Host" affair. I believe it is direspectful on all levels.
What are you saying to your client? Your time is much too valuable to do put up a minimum effort on their behalf. What if somebody comes in and is quasi-interested in the home? You would imagine that with a little guided tour, you could point out the high points, some of the not-so-obvious features, get a feel for how people are reacting to the price. Don't … (0 comments)

walnut creek real estate: How much do we know? How much do we care? - 07/02/09 07:14 PM
I have always wondered what is more important to our clients. Do they expect us, as Realtors, to know every answer to every question?  Do they expect us to care 100% about what is happening with them during an escrow? I believe that their expectations of us tend to run toward the empathetic, rather than an encyclopedic knowledge of all things "Real Estate-ish". They care what you know, but they REALLY want t know that you care.
Can you learn empathy in school, like learning Real Estate law?  You can be successful in this business, being strictly a "numbers" person, But … (0 comments)
