HUMOR - OLD & CRAFTY - 10/31/07 10:22 PM
An older lady gets pulled over for speeding...
Older Woman: Is there a problem, Officer? Officer: Ma'am, you were speeding. Older Woman: Oh, I see. Officer: Can I see your license please? Older Woman: I'd give it to you but I don't have one. Officer: Don't have one? Older Woman: Lost it, 4 years ago for drunk driving. Officer: I see...Can I see your vehicle registration papers please. Older Woman: I can't do that. Officer: Why not? Older Woman: I stole this car. Officer: Stole it? Older Woman: Yes, and I killed and hacked up the owner. Officer: You what? Older Woman: … (7 comments)

REALTOR IN BROADWAY PLAY - SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER - 10/31/07 07:18 PM
It started with a car trip upstate, stuck in traffic, listening to CBS-FM 101.1. It was a radio contest and you had to be the 11th caller to identify who wrote all of the music to the soon to open Broadway rendition of the movie, Saturday Night Fever.  My husband, Michael, provided the answer, the Bee Gees, and I provided the magic dialing finger that won us four tickets to the October 21st opening night.Within this contest was contained a second contest.  All winners would partake in a 70's costume contest after the show. The production was wonderful and when everyone got … (3 comments)

Here's some news for you - it's going to be okay, even if today's troubles seem overwhelming and insurmountable. Even if you feel that it will be the end of the world if your project goes beyond deadline, if your daughter's costume isn't ready for the school play, if you forgot to call your mother on her birthday. HUMOR - HEALTH INSURANCE - 10/28/07 09:31 AM
The phone rang and the lady of the house answered, 'Hello.'
'Mrs. Ward, please.'
'Speaking.'
'Mrs. Ward, this is the nurse at the Medical Testing Laboratory. When your doctor sent your husband's biopsy to the lab yesterday, a biopsy from another Mr. Ward arrived as well, and we are now uncertain which one is your husband's. Frankly the results are either bad or terrible.'
'What do you mean?' Mrs. Ward asked nervously.
'Well, one of the specimens tested positive for Alzheimer's and the other one tested positive for AIDS. We can't tell which is your husband's.'
'That's dreadful! Can't you do the test again?' questioned Mrs. Ward.

HUMOR - SEX ON THE SABBATH - 10/26/07 11:33 PM
A man wonders if having sex on  the Sabbath is a sin because he is not sure if sex is work or play.  So he goes to a Priest and asks for his opinion on this question. After consulting the Bible, the Priest says, "My son, after an exhaustive search, I am positive that sex is work and is  therefore not permitted on Sundays."The man thinks: "What does a priest know about  sex?" So he goes to aMinister, who after all is a married man and experienced  in this matter. He queries the Minister and receives the same reply. Sex is work and therefore not for the Sabbath!  Not pleased with the reply, … (6 comments)

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES RELIEF CAMPAIGN by COLDWELL BANKER - 10/26/07 02:59 PM
I am sure you are well aware of the horrific wildfires that have devastated parts of Southern California over the past week. The news reports indicate that at least 14 wildfires have destroyed about 1,500 homes and burned 650 square miles from north of Los Angeles to southeast of San Diego. Over the past week, more than 880,000 people in San Diego County were forced to take refuge in emergency shelters or are staying with relatives and friends. Among them are some of our friends and colleagues.
As you likely know, CBC® has a significant presence throughout Southern California, including many of the … (0 comments)

COMEBACK IN THE HOUSING MARKET? - 10/25/07 04:52 PM
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR.  SMILE OR EVEN LAUGH AT YESTERDAY'S STORIES ABOUT THE SEPTEMBER NUMBERS ON EXISTING HOME SALES.  A MONTH FROM NOW THEY WON'T EVEN BE REMEMBERED.  AND TWO MONTHS FROM NOW PEOPLE WHO RUN ACROSS THESE REPORTS WILL SHAKE THEIR HEADS AND ASK:  "HOW COULD WE HAVE LET THE FEAR-MONGERS AMONGST US SPIN SUCH TALES OF THE END OF THE WORLD BEING AT HAND ON HOUSING, WHEN IN FACT WE WERE LOOKING AT THE END OF THE HOUSING PANIC AND THE START OF A MAJOR, EVEN MASSIVE, COMEBACK IN THE HOUSING MARKET."
MAYBE IT IS BECAUSE I HAVE SO MANY … (1 comments)

HOW TO HELP THE FOLKS IN SAN DIEGO - 10/23/07 08:03 PM
I have been in contact with a friend who is evacuated from their home in San Diego (Rancho Bernardo).  I asked him how Realtors all over the US could assist the folks who are suffering there.  Here is his response.
Find short term housing for those who lost homes. There are lots of home owners with empty houses and now many with no home. Maybe match them up some how free and at reduced rents???
I am not sure how insurance covers interim living.
Food donations at the shelters?
Do any of you Southern California Realtors have vacant homes for sale?  Please contact your … (4 comments)

A BLOG THAT'S NOT SO FUNNY - WELLS FARGO - 10/23/07 07:47 PM
When I purchased a tempurpedic mattress, I got to wait a year, interest free before paying.  Wells Fargo ends up bankrolling the deal.
When the year was up, I luckily just had a closing.  I deposited my check and sent Wells Fargo $2724. Well guess what, (you got it), the deposit did not clear in time and the check was returned NSF.  I called my bank and then Wells Fargo and both places assured me that they check was not going to be presented again for payment.
By this time, my deposit cleared so while on line with Wells Fargo, we paid with … (8 comments)

A LITTLE HUMOR - 10/22/07 05:41 PM
A stranger was seated next to a little girl on the airplane when the stranger turned to her and said, "Let's talk. I've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger."The little girl, who had just opened her book, closed it slowly and said to the stranger, "What would you like to talk about?" Oh, I don't k now", said the stranger. "How about nuclear power?""OK," she said. "That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat grass, the same … (13 comments)

MY FAVORITE 4-LETTER WORD - 10/22/07 03:18 PM
"The marksman hitteth the mark partly by pulling, partly by letting go."~ Egyptian proverb
READY, AIM... RELEASE!
Life is full of dualities. This is often how understanding comes to us - we learn what something is by what it is not. We're familiar with maxims that tell us there are always two sides to every coin, that for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction, that there is no shadow without light.
How does this concept apply to our goals and efforts? First, we must visualize our goal. Second, we must create a plan to aim for and achieve that goal. Third, … (2 comments)

PUNTA CANA - ANYONE BEEN THERE? - 10/18/07 11:48 PM
I've just found a new word in the dictionary...never heard it before...vacation.  Anyone familiar with it?  Well, we are going to bite the bullet and do it between big Xmas and little Xmas.
Does anyone know if my cell phone will work there?  Will I be able to pick up the Verizon Broadband for my laptop email?  Lord knows, I won't be able to relax if I don't know what is going on back home.
And speaking of Punta Cana (DR), has anyone been there?  Is there anything to do off of the resort sight?  Any historical digs?  Good restaurants?  Playtime?  Warnings?  I … (3 comments)

MRSA - 10/17/07 11:00 PM
My grandson is in the hospital with MRSA (my son has been fighting it for months).
Does anyone have any experience with it or information on it?
 Information I have located:
What is MRSA?
MRSA is an acronym for Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (and is sometimes referred to as MERSA), and it is an antibiotic resistant Superbug bacteria that grows in clusters, multiplies very rapidly and can cause many different kinds of infection, ranging from simple skin infections (boils, furuncles) to septicemia (infection of the bloodstream) and toxic shock syndrome, and is spreading rapidly in the United States and worldwide.

TALK IS CHEAP - 10/16/07 10:23 PM
"We're not out to change the world, just the way you talk to it."~ from a Vonage television commercial
"The more elaborate our means of communication, the less we communicate."~ Joseph Priestly
TALK IS CHEAP!
How ironic that the inspirational quote above comes from a marketing campaign for a communications company. It's touted that technology saves you time and helps you to communicate better. But isn't it more apparent that technology now leaves us with so little time that we barely have occasion to properly interact with others?
Anything that "saves time" is simply making time that you devote to some other pursuit. Dishwashers and clothes dryers … (4 comments)

PICK OUT THE BAD APPLES - OUR CROP IS GOOD! - 10/15/07 08:56 AM
Every time I go into a prospective client's home, I must focus on proving I am not like the last Realtor they experienced or heard about.  Having a bad doctor, doesn't cause the public to stop seeking medical help.  In our industry, one bad apple DOES ruin the bunch.
Have you ever filed a complain with your Grievance Committee?  Why not?  As Realtors, we have to be our own police force; if we are not weeding out the bad apples, we are all going to continue to smell rotten.
I know some of us are afraid to stir up the pot...after all, … (9 comments)

HAVE WE REACHED BOTTOM? - 10/15/07 08:29 AM
THERE IS AN OLD SAYING IN REAL ESTATE THAT A DECLINE CANNOT END UNTIL THE LAST OPTIMIST THROWS IN THE TOWEL.  I THINK IT IS BARELY POSSIBLE THAT WE MAY - AND I STRESS MAY - HAVE JUST WITNESSED THAT MOMENT.  I WILL TELL YOU IN JUST A MOMENT OF TWO TINY HINTS THAT MAY BE HARBINGERS OF A TURN UPWARD.  BUT FIRST I WANT TO TALK WITH YOU ABOUT WHAT I SUGGEST COULD POSSIBLY BE THE VITAL "THROWING IN OF THE TOWEL."
AS FIGHT FANS WHO WATCH BOXING SLUGFESTS KNOW, THAT IS A MOMENT WHEN THE CORNER MEN FOR ONE OF … (6 comments)

THANK & GROW RICH!!! - 10/15/07 08:16 AM
"The art of acceptance is the art of making someone who has just done you a small favor wish that he might have done you a greater one."~ Russell Lynes
THANK AND GROW RICH!
It seems that in this day and age, we have lost the art of thanking. Too much is just plain expected, and time is at such a premium that proper thanks are often overlooked. Unfortunately, the less time we take now to be gracious in our gratitude, the less likely we are in the future to enjoy the the gifts and benefits that others offer us.
Regardless of how great … (6 comments)

ARE YOU BORN WITH IT? - 10/13/07 06:36 PM
"I have failed over and over again. That is why I succeed."~ Michael Jordan
BORN WITH IT?
It's amazing to hear that Michael Jordan, widely acknowledged as the greatest basketball player of all time, has "failed over and over again." While he indeed ultimately succeeded in achieving the highest honors in his game, for both himself and his team, he also met with some degree of disappointment in his other pursuits (baseball comes to mind).
The point is that he never stopped at failure and never feared failure. How would one ever achieve success if one simply stopped at the first letdown? Each misfortune … (6 comments)

ARE YOU THE SOLUTION TO THEIR PROBLEMS? - 10/04/07 12:19 AM
"It's not about getting your prospects to choose you over the competition. It's about getting your prospects to see you as the only solution to their problem."
-Henry Ford
A key principle in marketing is to find a unique attribute and focus your sales message around it. Remember that your service will always be different from others. The reason: it is you.
Distinguish yourself from the competition by being a resource of answers and not a dumping ground of problems. By going the extra mile for a client you are not "beating" the competition but differentiating yourself from them.
CHALLENGE: Get to know your … (4 comments)

KNOW WHAT YOU WANT? - 10/02/07 09:23 PM
"Some luck lies in not getting what you thought you wanted but getting what you have, which once you have got it you may be smart enough to see is what you would have wanted had you known."~ Garrison Keillor
KNOW WHAT YOU WANT?
The next time your hope or ambition is thwarted, and you believe that you didn't get what you wanted, think about the quote above. The problem so many of us have is that we're not happy with what we've already got. We believe that there is something or someone else out there, outside of ourselves, that will make … (6 comments)

HOW GREEN IS YOUR GRASS? - 10/01/07 06:17 PM
"Success is counted sweetest by those who never succeed." ~ Emily Dickinson
"Men are all the same. They always think that something they are going to get is better than what they have got." ~ John Oliver Hobbes
HOW GREEN IS YOUR GRASS?
Have you been sowing the seeds of your success? Are you prepared for the harvest? Those who are jealous of other people's successes often have no idea of the consequences. Yes, that rose is sweet and fragrant, but watch out for the thorns! That which you would most value always comes at some cost.
Picture the most successful person in your office. … (4 comments)
