Mortgage rates are at their lowest so far this year. Upheaval in Europe has caused investors to put money into US Government securities, which are considered to be safer than global investments at this time. The average rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage dropped to 4.78 percent this week down .06 percent from last week, according to information from Freddie Mac. The debt crisis in Europe has sent yields for 10- and 30-year Treasury bonds to the lowest point this year thus far.
