It's the most wonderful time of the year..! - 12/12/09 10:44 AM
Like many, Christmas is my favorite time of year. With all the beautiful decorations, presents, yummy food, and cheerful people almost anywhere you go, what's not to love? Okay, well maybe I don't love my credit card bill after the holidays are over, but honestly you don't have to spend a lot to have great gifts. One great budget-friendly idea is to bake homemade cookies! You don't have to go crazy, just package them up in cute holiday bags and tie them with ribbon! Delicious and gorgeous!

The Wizards of Winter are coming to town.. you won't want to miss this! - 12/07/09 07:19 PM
Looking for something fun to do with the kids one night this week? How about taking them to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) concert on Wednesday, Dec. 9th at the Verizon Center. Tickets are still available for both show times; the early show begins a 4pm while the evening concert starts at 8pm. Let me just tell you, this is no ordinary concert. It's a highly entertaining holiday concert that can be enjoyed by all ages. Extraordinarily talented musicians perform an array of Christmas and Holiday songs with an eye-catching light show in sync with the music. Not sure who they are?

Boundary changes may come for Stone Bridge & Tuscarora HS - 12/07/09 07:02 AM
Overcrowding once again becomes an issue for two Loudoun County high schools. With the new Tuscarora High School to open in fall of 2010, the Ashburn and Lansdowne communities open the gates for new boundary lines to be drawn to alleviate overcrowding. The school board listened to surrounding residents concerns and suggestions on how to resolve the matter and where to draw the lines. Two options have been drawn up so far - one option is for Tuscarora to only take rising 9th graders in 2010 while the second is to take rising 10th and 11th grade students from Stone Bridge.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow..! - 12/05/09 12:49 PM
Almost taken by complete surprise, Loudoun County residents enjoyed the first snow fall for the year today. Many residents such as myself, did not even hear about the chance of snow fall until late Friday night around the hour of 7pm. An expected 2-4 inches of snow fall was anticipated to accumulate and quite shockingly, the local weathermen and meteorologists were actually right! Right now I would say there is about 3-4 inches of snow on the ground and the snowflakes just keep falling. So while the kids are all outside playing in the snow, I stopped by my neighbor's house

Some HARD FACTS about foreclosures... - 12/04/09 09:10 AM
Everyone wants a deal. With the abundance of foreclosures and distressed properties out there – the opportunities do exist. The price you pay for that home is less than a ‘regular’ sale in dollars, but much higher in emotional capital. Which, I would say, is worth much more than a dollar. Here are a few truths about foreclosures: Just because it is a foreclosure does NOT mean that it is a deal. Banks do not always price property appropriately. Sometimes they are at – or even above – market value. Check with your agent and make sure you do

Over the river and through the woods.. to DC! - 12/03/09 07:15 PM
Okay well you might not really be traveling through "woods" into DC unless you come down the George Washington Parkway, but I'm trying to stick with the theme with keeping each blog subject title in line with the holidays. So what's to do in DC for the holidays? Probably one of the most popular and well-known events is the lighting of the National Christmas Tree. The ceremony was held today starting at 5pm where the Obama family all joined hands in lighting the tree. (see picture below). To stay up to date on next year's Christmas Tree lighting, go to http://www.thenationaltree.org.

DeLIGHTful December - 12/02/09 10:28 AM
Instead of posting just the regular local news, I wanted add some cheerful holiday blogs in a creative way. While I organizing my thoughts yesterday, I came up with the idea to post on blog for every day remaining in the month of December about local events or fun activities to enjoy for the holidays. For today, I choose the locally well-known "Festival of Lights" in Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville, Virginia. If you have never been, I highly suggest loading up the car with seasonal music, family and friends one evening during the week to check it out. Starting
