The United Nations estimates that there are over 100 million people in the world today are homeless. Most are without electricity, running water, or adequate sanitation and security. Habitat for Humanity wants to recognize October 5th as National Habitat Day and build global observance that "affordable, adequate housing should be a priority everywhere - in our communities, in our towns, in our country, [and] in our world." With the temperature dropping and fall right around the corner, we all are awaiting the lovely time of year when the trees turn spectacular colors and pumpkin-everything is available. Wow, summer flew by! So the weather has gotten colder, the children have started school, and we are already seeing Halloween candy pop up in stores. Now that fall is almost upon us, the leaves will begin to change and the nation’s capital will brighten up into a beautiful array of yellow, orange, red, and brown – a perfect photographic moment! The Washingtonian hosts a monthly picture contest with September’s theme focused around fall colors. Dust off that camera and get creative!
