reston: Why RENT when you can BUY? - 04/20/09 11:55 AM
Why buy now? With the best affordability in years, low interest rates, and the first-time home-buyers tax credit, you have probably heard that now is the time to buy. But these are not the only reasons why now certainly is the time to buy.
A home is probably one of the biggest purchases you will make in your lifetime and one of the best investments you can make for your future. Unlike a car, a home actually increases in value over it's lifetime and the location of the home is the biggest determinant of how fast your home will appreciate over … (0 comments)

reston: Top 5 reasons to hire a Realtor - 04/17/09 02:52 PM
First question for sellers is how badly do you want to move? If your like the majority of sellers that put their house on the market, you want you house to sell fast and for a good price. Sounds simple right? Wrong. The market is constantly changing and part of selling your home is getting into the market with your best foot forward. This means that the house is completely show ready, the correct price for your area was chosen based on comparable properties, and marketing your house to its FULL potential. Even if your house immaculate and in complete move-in … (0 comments)

reston: More GOOD NEWS about the Housing market! NAR projects 1% rise in 2009 Sales - 04/17/09 01:54 PM
With improved housing affordability in the area and new buying incentives such as the $8,000 tax credit, more buyers are coming out to take advantage of the market. According to the Pending Home Sales Index, the number of contracts signed in February grew 2.1 percent from January and is only 1.4 percent lower than the number signed in February 2008.
What does all this mean? Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist, says that these are "hopeful indicators that we’ll see additional sales gains."

reston: Don't forgot to turn your lights off tomorrow night! - 03/27/09 04:03 PM
In recognition of Earth Day, residents are encouraged to turn off their lights on Saturday, March 28th from 8:30-9:30pm (local time) for Earth Hour in effort to raise awareness of global warming.
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007 when local 2.2 million businesses and residents turned off lights for one hour during the night. Last year the movement grew substantially to 50 million businesses and residents. Some nationwide landmarks were the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome's Coliseum, the Sydney Opera House, and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.
This year the Earth Hour … (0 comments)

reston: Looking to buy? Feeling uneasy because of current Market conditions? Don't! Here is why... - 03/19/09 05:05 PM
Yes, the economy is struggling, yes we are currently experiencing one of the longest recessions in American history; but like Buffini, (one of the real estate gurus in the US) says, "a recession is a horrible thing... to waste!" Turn off the news & listen to the experts in the investment industry, the real estate market professionals, and the top economists in the nation. Interests rates are lower than they have been in the last 30 years and home prices have dropped in the past 2 years to some of the most affordable prices in ages! It is expected that home prices … (0 comments)

reston: Out-of-work but still want to buy? Here's some answers - 03/11/09 09:58 AM
Q: I lost my job last month. To cut expenses and avoid foreclosure, I want to sell my house, extract the equity and move down to a lower-priced short sale or bank-owned house. But because I don't have a steady income anymore, no bank seems to want to let me buy either type of home, even though when I sell my current place, I'll have enough equity to cover the entire cost of the new home. Is there anyway I can buy a short sale or bank-owned home contingent on the sale of my current home?
A: Unfortunately, you are caught … (0 comments)

reston: Understanding Housing Tax Credits - 03/11/09 09:41 AM
Editor's note: The original article contained an error. Those homebuyers who are eligible for the $8,000 tax credit can claim that credit when filing their 2008 tax return.
As we move further into tax season, Treasury and IRS employees have been busy filling in the missing pieces on all of the new tax laws that were passed as part of the recent stimulus package.
When it comes to real estate, the rules are at best confusing. Let's shed a little compact fluorescent light on the subject:
2008 $7,500 tax credit vs. 2009 $8,000 tax credit
If you were a first-time … (0 comments)
