Having been on the road again teaching the HAFA program, and then speaking to other real estate professionals, I must say I am surprised at the mis-information I am hearing.  People I know well and I thought were aware came to me and said "HAMP has been eliminated".  That is just not true.

Yes, the House of Representatives did vote to elminate HAMP, but the Legislative process is that the Senate must also vote to eliminate and then ultimately, the President must agree to the elimination of the program.  I don't see that happening.

I am not saying that the HAMP program is perfect, but there are a large number of people who have successfully modified their mortgages under the program.  We know that as Realtors, we should not work on the modifications for the consumer, but we can provide information to them as to where they can go to get help.  Providing them web addresses such as www.makinghomeaffordable.gov or www.hud.gov is a service we can do and should be doing.

We all need to work together to get to the otherside of this real estate market.  Let's be sure we all have the correct information and know how to guide the consumer to the places they can go for help.
