They were and still are the 'builders' of the Navy and Marines and were formed at the beginning of WWII to be the construction battalion to support troops around the world. The logo of the Seabee was designed by a native Rhode Islander. The 'fighting bee at sea' is known throughout Rhode Island but probably not anywhere else.
