The City of Mount Dora was established in 1880, the City of Mount Dora was first named Royellou after one of the city's pioneers.  Lake Dora was named for a local resident who provided camping hospitality to Federal surveyors in 1883.  The town was later renamed after the lake.  The "mount" refers to the fact that the city sits on a plateau 266 feet above sea level.  Incorporated as a town on March 25, 1910 with 370 residents, it was later incorporated as a city on April 23, 1953.  Mount Dora now boasts a population of approximately 10,364.Located approximately 25 miles … (0 comments)

Named for its 1400 plus lakes, Clermont was formed from a portion of Orange County and Sumter County in 1887. We are approximately 1200 square miles and are known for our diverse landscape and terrain ranging from 0 to 315 feet above sea level.

Winter Springs originated from Spanish land grants given to a successful New York merchant who traded lumber and other goods with Spain.  Lake wharves used to be home to steamboats delivering freight for wagon delivery inland to Maitland and Orlando.  Farmers, lumbering crews, sawmill workers and more migrated into the area, constructing all manner of businesses.  Cattle business began to boom along the spring-fed lakes.
