The habits of communication and human interaction are ever changing as technology interjects itself into our hyper-speed world. Many believe this is driving the demise of civility, manners, and thoughtful consideration of others. I know we all see too many of these problems in real estate, both from the professionals and the clients. In many cases, I admit I agree with this belief.

We might never admit it but often we are not listening. It may be something a buyer or seller is saying, another agent, our kids, our spouse, or even a stranger. Many times this is a bad thing and our own fault. Perhaps we are daydreaming or listening to something else, or even thinking of what we are about to say. “I’m sorry dear, did you say something?”
While this can be a running joke (or accusation) among many couples, it is also common in business, including real estate, and it costs us money and damages our reputation.

In many of our deals and projects we must battle the common mindset of, “That's not how we’ve always done it.” The power of old habits is strong, even if there are newer, faster, and better ways to proceed.
At the same time, I’m often intrigued by buyers, sellers, lenders, and agents who keep avoiding solid solutions while searching for almost mythical short-cuts.
