Isn't August an amazing month? I hope that you're feeling as energized as I am. There is so much to do; festivals to attend, BBQs to have, lakes to swim in and great properties to invest in! New immigrants driving housing demand, Scotia Economics reports - "Canadian immigrants are narrowing the homeownership gap with their Canadian-born counterparts, according to the latest real estate trends report released Thursday by Scotia Economics. The report said of the more than one million immigrants that came to Canada between 2001 and 2006, 69% settled in the metropolitan regions of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. A growing proportion, however, settled in smaller areas, including Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Hamilton and Kitchener. Other countries around the world are in serious economic turmoil  but Canada is blessed to  have the most stable economy. Among Canada's provinces Alberta is the most balanced with the healthiest economy and growing infrastructure to support population/investment growth. You may read the the oil sands are bust and all the projects have stopped but this is not accurate.  There are still over $170 billion projects underway only $90 billion have been delayed.  Don't kid yourself, the need for oil is increasing while the production of oil is decreasing.  Until the world finds a way to make a solar car (or … (0 comments)

Housing market hit by economic uncertainty - " A report out from RE/MAX today says the global economic crunch has made an impact on housing sales in major Canadian cities towards the end of 2008.
About 440 000 homes are expected to change hands in Canada this year, that's a 15 percent drop from record levels in 2007.
Here in Edmonton, just under 19 000 homes will have been sold by the time 2008 is said and done with. That would mark an 8 percent drop from last year's number of 20 437.
