"It's The Climate" - Happy 90th Birthday! - Grants Pass, Oregon

The "It's The Climate" sign in Grants Pass is celebrating its' 90th birthday.

First hung on July 20th, 1920, the "It's The Climate" sign is a tribute to a great place to live!

We owe our "now famous" slogan, "It's The Climate", to Mr. John Hampshire, an engineer and road contractor.

Arriving in Grants Pass in 1917, Mr. Hampshire started promoting the slogan he created, "It's The Climate", to all the local businesses.

There are some interesting names given to landmarks in Southern Oregon.  Take Jump Off Joe Creek for instance. 
I've heard of " Jump Off Joe" at the coast near Newport, Oregon, but just north of Grants Pass, Oregon is "Jump Off Joe Creek."

Named for Joe McLoughlin, the son of Dr. John McLoughlin who had a major role in the first settling of Portland.  Dr. John had been with Hudson's Bay Fur Company and the main street; (McLoughlin Boulevard) that runs through Oregon's first Capital, Oregon City, is named after him, as well … (1 comments)
