Often times the apartment picture you see with the large kitchen

Housing Counsel: The Quagmire Called Square Footage - 06/30/07 10:15 PM
Question: We are under contract to purchase a downtown condominium unit. This is a resale situation. The seller's real estate agent has represented the unit to contain 860 square feet. However, when my wife and I physically measured the apartment, we can only come up with 830 square feet. Is there a formal method of making these measurements? Obviously, we do not want to pay for more than we are actually getting. Answer: There is an old expression that when there are two lawyers, there will be three opinions. In real estate, when you are trying to analyze square footage, you

The United States Golf Association made it official when it announced that the U.S. Open will return to Pinehurst No. 2 in 2014. The announcement came at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, site of this year's U.S. Open. The world-renowned Pinehurst Resort previously hosted U.S. Opens in 1999 and 2005. It had been speculated since the final day of the 2005 Open that the USGA would bring the national championship back to the Donald Ross-designed No. 2 course. It was just a question of when. The earliest possible date was 2014. The USGA does not maintain an official rotation of Open courses.

Should Home Sales Prices Be Kept Secret? - 06/20/07 05:52 AM
While most states do disclose prices one way or another, some still don't. Previously we lived and practiced real estate in Utah, a non-disclosure state and we now reside in North Carolina, which is a disclosure state, so we've experienced both. Here are a few questions that we would like to get your input on... 1.) Do you feel nondisclosure benefits the consumer? 2.) Does nondisclosure benefit the real estate industry? 3.) Do you live in a nondisclosure state and where do you weigh

Making Sense of Zero Cost Refinance Programs... - 06/14/07 11:06 PM
Wildly popular in some geographic areas... Virtually unheard of in others, the zero cost refinance program can sometimes be misunderstood, and it's the the borrower who is most often affected. Simply put, qualified borrowers forego the payment of the traditional closing costs associated with a refinance in exchange for a slightly higher interest rate... usually about one quarter percent. These closing costs include such items as title insurance, county recording fees, appraisal fees, lender underwriting fees, attorney settlement fees, and so forth. How does it work? It's quite simple. Wholesale lenders are willing to pay the originating mortgage company a fee in exchange for

New Credit Score Scam Troubles Officials... - 06/09/07 06:47 PM
Federal and state regulators say it's one of the fastest-spreading new scams in the mortgage market: Internet-based companies that artificially raise loan applicants' FICO scores by 50 to 200 points by implanting credit accounts of consumers with outstanding payment histories into the credit files of borrowers with low scores and bad payment histories.
