festival at sandpoint: A wine tasting with a concert - or is it a concert with a wine tasting? Sandpoint Blog - 08/16/10 05:42 PM
Grand Finale Concert was Sunday at 7:30 p.m. showcasing Russian Masterpieces with the Spokane Symphony including Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" and the traditional fireworks finale, Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. The fireworks corresponded with the firing of the cannons, and the event was punctuated by the appearances of a pair of guest artists. Pianist Archie Chen, a former Spokane prodigy who now tours worldwide, played Rachmaninoff's famous "Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini." Sandpoint soprano Hailey Fuqua and former scholarship winner of one of the Angels Over Sandpoint grants will sang Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise." Gary Sheldon conducted.
The annual "Taste of the Stars" wine … (2 comments)

festival at sandpoint: Festival at Sandpoint's biggest night featuring Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: Sandpoint Blog - 08/15/10 05:08 PM
The last Saturday night of the Festival at Sandpoint is typically the biggest event, but to be honest, I did not expect the turnout for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The Festival Grounds were packed. By the time we arrived, and we were volunteering for another event, we were faced with standing room only.
We found a spot on the bleachers, and the concert was excellent.
August 14 was SUPER COUNTRY SATURDAY starring favorite Festival alumni (from 1999 and 2002) NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND. They formed in Southern California during the spring of 1966 as a scruffy, young jug band, and forty-two years … (2 comments)

Every year I am associated with the Festival at Sandpoint in various ways. Many, many of us are. I have volunteered to place the thousands of plants and help with the decorating; I have hosted and catered the wine maker's dinners; I have interviewed the fest folks a good dozen times on my radio shows. On my North Idaho Arts & Adventure show last Tuesday, I interviewed Dyno Wahl about the upcoming 2010 performances.
Tthe lineup in the past have included names like Lou Rawls, Jim Messina, Wynton Marsalis, Tony Bennet, The Beach Boys, The Bellamy Brothers, Natalie Cole, Alison … (0 comments)

In August, 2007 The Festival at Sandpoint celebrated its 25th season of music in Sandpoint. What began in 1982 as a quest by a few pioneering and visionary classical music lovers to bring symphonic music to their town of 5,000, has expanded to become one of the largest arts organizations in Idaho. As The Festival has grown it has continued to honor its original mission to bring classical music to the area, however, it has expanded … (1 comments)

festival at sandpoint: Wrapping up the Festival at Sandpoint - A look back on 2009 - 08/24/09 05:38 PM
...and the heavens opened up before us, parting the clouds, for the angels sang on high...
...or at least that's how it felt. For a freakish two weeks we had incredibly unusual cool weather. Gone were the "I could have fried an egg on the sidewalk days" to "Dear Lord, can anybody spare a parka!" Not kidding. The norm of mid-90s to low 100 degree temperatures gave way to nightly lows in the 40s. Plus, given the atmospheric conversion, or is it inversion, daily downpours gave rise to the parting of the Red Sea/Lake Pend Oreille. Okay, enough with the Biblical … (1 comments)

festival at sandpoint: Sandpoint, Idaho's premier music event: Festival at Sandpoint - 08/04/09 01:23 PM
Festival at Sandpoint
These are some pictures of setting up and scenes from the last couple of years of the Festival at Sandpoint. This year, 2009, marks the 27th annual Festival at Sandpoint.
There is so much more that goes into producing such a large event. Besides running the event for two weeks with international stars appearing four nights a week, there is the wine tasting, other associated events, and the set up and break down takes days.
These photos of the Festival at Sandpoint are just to give you a brief glimpse of that great musical magical time in Sandpoint, … (0 comments)
