As I write this, the beginnings of a snowstorm are happening outside. It's bitter cold and those fine snowflakes are falling. You wouldn't think this would be the time of year for a farmers market in Wisconsin -- but it is! Beginning Saturday, January 28, and continuing the last Saturday of each month through May, is the Port Washington Winter Farmers Market. What sorts of goodies will be sold at this event? There's lots of holiday fun throughout Ozaukee County this week. Here is just a taste of the festivities happening right now: Christmas in the Country & Wisconsin Quilt Museum Cookie Fundraiser, Cedarburg, December 4-7: The Christmas in the Country folk and fine arts fair and show takes place at the Cedar Creek Winery (Bridge Rd & Washington Ave). Hours for the show are 5-8pm December 4, 10am-8pm December 5, 10am-5pm December 6, 1-4pm December 7 and costs just $5 on Thursday and $3 for Friday through Sunday. There are several cities in Ozaukee County that are holding fun Halloween events during the next week. Take a Gothic History Tour of Cedarburg at 7pm on October 24th, 6:30pm on October 26th or 7 & 9pm on October 31st. Each 90-minute tour starts at the Cedarburg Cultural Center and includes stories and scenes of murder, death and mystery in the Cedarburg history from the 1900s-1920s. port washington events: Prepare to Care & Voter Registration in Port Washington - 10/14/08 06:10 PM
On Tuesday, October 21st, the Ozaukee County Administation Center will be hosting Prepare to Care, a program to help both individuals and families create plans for the future care of either themselves or their loved ones. This program will be held from 6:30-8pm at 121 W Main Street in Port Washington and is open to everyone. To register for this great program, simply call the University of Wisconsin Extension at 284-8288. Remember, if you are not registered to vote and live in Wisconsin, you need to register yourself no later than 10 days preceeding the election (on November 4th) to be able to vote.

Beginning today and continuing on until Sunday, September 21st, an army of volunteers are expected to descend upon Port Washington's Upper Lake Park to create Possibility Playground, a universally accessible play area. Conceived by a grass-roots organization and organized over the last year, Possibility Playground will feature ramps and slides snaking through a replica of the Port Washington Lighthouse, a chain walk castle, tunnels, a mural of Lake Michigan and a pirate ship. On Sunday, August 24th, St. John's Lutheran Church will host an Ozaukee Big Band Concert, Taste of Port Washington and fundraiser for the troops in Port Washington, WI. Food and beverages will be provided for sale by local Area Port Restaurants. The event will be held in the church's cafeteria, which will open at 4pm, the concert will take place from 6-7:30pm and all refreshments will be sold until 7pm. Beautiful Port Washington, Wisconsin is a wonderful lakeside community steeped in American history. This 4th of July weekend, many festivities abound for its residents and visitors alike. On Friday, the 4th, enjoy the Independence Day Parade at 11 am, followed by judging of children's decorated bikes and an old fashioned ice cream social from 11am-3pm at Veteran's Park.
