Isn't that a funny title? Just not sure how else to word it. I'm talking about the view off the deck from my cabin in Lake Arrowhead. We've owned this place since 1999 and watched many sunsets off to the West (that much we had figured out), but when we look on maps, we are disoriented. I even thought at one time we watched the sun set over Catalina.....but now I'm thinking that is wrong. (sigh) But yesterday it all became clear to me. Is that really the first star? or just an airplane? Star! I'm watching the last of the day's colors fall over the rocky peaks off the deck of my Lake Arrowhead Cabin. Orange, Blue, strips of Gray and Purple...and above it the bright dot of the first star. As I sit out here listening to the loud sound of crickets, and feeling grateful for the cool of the evening, I can't help but marvel of nature. Do you know the saying? "Only Mad Dogs and Englishmen Go Out In The Noon Day Sun." Well we are getting noon day sun ALL day. It's hot. In an effort to escape the Orange County heat (yes, you heard that right), we headed to the cabin.....not necessarily a good escape as the cabin is also hot and not air conditioned (hmmmm). I have been at our cabin in Lake Arrowhead since last Friday. The beginning of back-to-back mini-vacations. Lucky me! I was looking forward to boating, fishing, jeeping and most importantly...hiking. I love to hike up here...especially first thing in the morning or early evening. Just being out in the middle of the woods enjoying the breeze and view. Exercise that feels like a treat! I do my best thinking when I'm hiking. I am enjoying a few days in the mountains....working a bit too....but when I can start my day with a hike through the trails, it's a great day. I find that when I hit that first trail, I start to see things clearer. I find that things fall into perspective. What else could I possibly need in my day other than a walk in the woods? Nothing! I've been fighting a flu-bug the past couple of days. Ok, maybe not fighting as much as completely giving in. Sleeping in my flannel sheets, watching tear-jerker romantic movies by the fire and allowing my sweet husband to do EVERYTHING for me. Hmmmm, maybe the flu isn't so bad? Especially when I get to do it in my cabin. I intended to finish some Christmas shopping and cook a nice meal....but we've done fine on what we have here and my husband roasted a fresh chicken for us tonight. The Sun is quickly disappearing over the mountain tops. The sky is layered in orange, pale blue and white...pretty soon deep pink and purple will appear. My son and his best friend are downstairs and I can hear the giggles and laughs as they wait for the charcoal to heat up enough to cook the trout we just caught.
