sales: I'm In A Really, Really, REALLY Bad Mood.....Hopefully You'll Never Know It - 02/02/12 10:43 AM

My dog is just staring at me from outside. She wants inside so badly...normally she sits at my feet while I do my morning work. Not today, I might just kick her.
I'm in a really bad mood!
There isn't a particular reason for it. It's not because I was having a nice dream when the alarm went off. It's not because I had to wake up my son who slept through his alarm. It's not because I had to gather my husband's clothes off the floor just to brush my teeth.
My husband thinks he knows the … (17 comments)

sales: It's Not What You Wear....Or...How To Sell Real Estate Barefoot - 01/20/12 07:26 PM

I recently wrote a post about mistakes I've made in business. well, actually I didn't list ALL my mistakes....that would just be foolish. But I did mention one glaring example.
To be fair, it's wasn't as much a mistake as much as an omission. I omitted shoes from my wardrobe as I left the house.
Does Errors and Omissions Insurance cover this?
At first blush it seems crazy to think that someone could walk out of the house without a critical part of their outfit. But I live and work in California and the day in question was … (23 comments)

sales: Write A Post? I Got Nothing :( - 11/10/11 01:47 PM

It's been a few days since I've posted on my blog.
It's not that I don't love writing....I do. I just got nothing. Normally these days I create my topics and point of view on my morning hikes. The past few days? nothing.
Could be that I have new shoes. "What?" It's true, I finally broke down and got some really good trail rated running shoes. I don't run....but now I am. I'd like to work on my endurance and have finally gotten to the point where "power walking" is not satisfying enough.
Me? Exercise junkie? Never in a … (24 comments)

sales: Are You Following The Post Office Example? - 10/26/11 11:23 AM

When things change.....do you change with it? or do you try and justify doing things the way you always have? I read a great featured post today by Lou Ludwig:
It's Always Been Done That Way
He makes the case for change and shows examples of outdated and replaced old ideas. It made me think. So often I read/hear agents try to hold onto the old way of doing things. It's human nature I guess, but bad for business.
Do you?
Do you justify why you continue to avoid new ideas in Technology? in Marketing? in Sales? in Business … (9 comments)

sales: Looking At A Blank Calendar Week.....Now What? - 10/01/11 03:00 PM

This is something which can cause a momentary panic in anyone who relies on commissions for income.
Ok....deep breath, reality check.
My open escrows are progressing nicely, I have a very busy month and next week? Well....it's just empty now. We'll see. As we all know things can happen. But rather than let it develop on it's own, I'm spending some time to create my week now.
I'm going to start by scheduling a coffee with an agent who asked to hold an open house at one of my listings. I only allow agents I have met … (30 comments)

sales: What One Agent Learned At The Office Last Week - 08/30/10 06:18 PM
There is no business there! She wasn't getting any phone calls and no one had walked through the door asking for her. She didn't get one listing the entire 3 hours (that's right....3 HOURS) she spent talking to other agents and drinking coffee...hmmmm, now THAT'S surprising.
Do you know what she did find there? Other agents who also did not have any business. Her misery found company!!!
I got this phone call late last Tuesday. Panic, misery, fear!! Begging for some leads to work....since "nothing was going on.".
Sooooo we talked! I did not give her leads, but I gave her … (71 comments)

sales: Real Estate Is Sales......Which Makes It a Numbers Game - 05/27/10 06:56 PM
Play to win! For all the conversations/debates we've had on Active Rain, in office meetings and amongst each other.....REAL ESTATE IS SALES, and sales is a numbers game. Increase the number of times you talk/touch/meet someone who is buying or selling real estate and the better the chance you have of converting them into clients of yours. They are ready to buy or sell from someone!
How you do this....irrelevant, do what you like to do. Do what you know is your best chance of attracting the clients.I like to blog, answer questions online, and send emails to leads. I like to … (1 comments)

sales: Forget The Big Picture.....Business Is One Client At A Time - 12/10/09 08:01 PM
Perspective is a funny thing. Often we hear "remember to look at the big picture." And "it's the little things which matter." Etc....lots of advice on how to look at a situation to make us feel good. Tonight, I'm thinking that we need to get away from the "Big Picture" and realize that our business is built one client at a time. That's a pretty small picture...but add more and more small pictures and you've built a life and a business.
The news every night is talking about the economy, real estate and the future.....that's the Big Picture. We all know … (10 comments)

sales: Salesperson Is Not a Dirty Word - 07/10/09 10:26 PM
I am constantly amazed at how people run from the term "salesman" or "salesperson." We see "territory manager," "senior consultant," and many other euphemisms for the real term....Sales Person. Why? Are we all walking around with "used car" listings? Are we ashamed of our offerings? No!!! Then why run from the title?
I have been in outside sales my entire adult life. My dad was a salesman and always told me I had a sales personality. In fact, I broke the record for seling Girl Scout Cookies when I was only 11 by going door-to-door selling cookies. My dad mapped out … (8 comments)
