new hampshire: New Hampshire's White Mountain Boogie N' Blues Festival: A Great Place to Get Your MoJo Workin' - 08/24/10 02:08 PM

What happens when Blues Lovers hit the White Mountains of New Hampshire for a weekend of Camping, Comaraderie and the chance to hear some of the best Blues Artists around? Magic! Plain and simple.
For the past fourteen years, Brad and Mike Benton have been hosting an event called The White Mountain Boogie N' Blues Festival on their family spread, The Sugar Shack Campground, in Thornton, New Hampshire. As Mike Benton stated in this year's welcome message for the Event Program, (paraphrasing one of the attendees): "The White Mountain Boogie N' Blues Festival is like a Woodstock for Senior Citizens."

new hampshire: I've Discovered a New 'Man in the Mountain' Profile in Franklin, New Hampshire - 08/11/10 01:23 PM
A while back, I posted an article about the Profile Falls in Bristol, New Hampshire, in which I wrote about how the formation of rocks there look like a man's profile, much like the famous 'Old Man in the Mountain' of Franconia Notch. Well, I believe I've discovered another rock profile I'd like to call the 'Old Man in the Boulders' in Franklin, New Hampshire.
Here is a photo of the Old Man in the Mountain, before it crumbled in 2003.
Photo found on Wikipedia
Why is the "Old Man' such a fixture for the people of New Hampshire? The Old Man in the Mountain has been New … (2 comments)

new hampshire: Pastries by Paris… Hill, New Hampshire…A Small Town Bake Shop That Delivers Exceptional Service - 08/12/09 11:24 AM

Paris Landry and her Mom, ‘Mike' own a bake shop and catering business in small town, Hill, New Hampshire.  Like most small businesses in this town of 1100, we get most of our business from referrals. This blog post is the best referral I can give for Pastries by Paris: a catering business that truly "caters" to your every need. I know this for a fact as Paris catered my daughter's wedding two weeks ago (July 25, 2009) and it was no small feat, let me tell you.

We had an outdoor wedding in our yard with over 250 … (3 comments)

new hampshire: Sled Dog Racing in Hill, New Hampshire - 02/09/09 02:01 PM

When you mention dog sledding, the Iditarod® comes to mind, but that race is in Alaska. What about right here in New Hampshire?
The New England Sled Dog Club, Inc. is running its 80th Annual Sled Dog Race in Laconia, New Hampshire, next weekend: February 13-15, 2009.

In preparation for the big race, the Lakes Region Sled Dog Club sponsored a race this past weekend in the Army Corps of Engineers' Flood Control Valley between Bristol and Franklin. This is part of the Heritage Trail.
Hill, New Hampshire, is smack dab in the middle of Bristol and Franklin. The … (3 comments)

new hampshire: Another Profile of New Hampshire: Profile Falls in Bristol - 11/04/08 04:19 PM

New Hampshire is known for many geographic profiles; the most famous being the Old Man in the Mountain. (photo provided by Wikipedia)
The profile that has spurred on this blog today, however, is Profile Falls, in Bristol, New Hampshire. I've mentioned in an earlier blog that the Pemigewasset River starts in Franconia Notch at Profile Lake, and travels South until it joins the Winnipesaukee River to form the Merrimack River in Franklin.
At the South end of Bristol, on the Hill Town Line, which is also the Grafton and Merrimack County border, the Smith River comes in from the West … (2 comments)

new hampshire: What Do Indian Names and Google Book Search Have to Do With One Another? - 07/17/08 04:22 PM
Do you live in a place whose name has Native American origins? And do you know the meaning of that name?
How about ‘Pemigewasset'?
I live in what is called the Three Rivers area of New Hampshire (Franklin). It is where the Pemigewasset and Winnipesaukee Rivers all become one... the Merrimack River. The two major tribes in this area are the Penacook and the Abnaki tribes. Don't ask me which one is responsible for the name. We simply call the river, the ‘Pemi'. The Pemi River starts at Profile Lake in Franconia Notch.
Today, however, I was looking up some history … (6 comments)
