for sale: Double Duty Homes offer a place to Live and Work - 04/11/11 08:18 AM
New living arrangements offer artists, professionals and entrepreneurs the opportunity to own a space that can serve as both a home and workspace.
With so many people working at home these days it is not surprising that the idea of a live/work property is sparking growing interest. Perhaps because of the high-cost of commuting, a desire to live closer to the action of the city or the search for cost-effective solutions for small businesses, finding a home that can do double duty is an idea whose time has come.
The USA Today recently reported that “in more than two-thirds of the … (1 comments)

for sale: S&A Homes Lab Home - 03/23/11 03:48 AM
I saw the coolest house last week. Ok, maybe from the outside it wasn't that cool, actually it looks just like all the other houses in the Cobblestone plan in Ohio Township, but that is actually what made the house so cool. It is S&A Homes new lab house and it was built in conjunction with IBACOS in an effort to figure out how a regular production home can be super energy efficient. While this home is not quite a zero-energy home yet, the goal it to spend the next 2-3 years learning how this home performs, what energy-efficient technology performs … (3 comments)

for sale: The Beauty and Sustainablity of Older Homes - 01/03/11 07:05 AM
I was reading a blog by a fellow real estate agent this morning about the poor construction he has been seeing in a number of homes (in other cities) that aren't even a few decades old yet, which got me to thinking about how much I like older homes and prompted me to write a few thoughts down.
Pittsburgh is an old city with lots of old homes and that is part of the beauty of our town. Rather than flat tracts of bulldozed land and cookie cutter houses common in newer cities, our city boast unique homes, winding brick roads … (1 comments)

for sale: Northeast Home Sales Climb in November - 12/23/09 07:39 AM
I got the opportunity to talk to a reporter from the Associated Press this week who was writing a story on Northeast home sales. She was interested in finding out what was going on in the Pittsburgh market and I was happy to oblige. As I told her, Pittsburgh has done very well compared to other areas of the country. One thing that seems to be driving our resilience is the low cost of living and low cost of homes.
You can read a few of the stories, that feature a quote from me :-), at the links below. Such Good … (1 comments)

As with any home purchase, you are choosing both a house and a community to live in. So it should come as no surprise that choosing to live a more sustainable lifestyle should also mean finding a great green community. I decided to take a look at how the different neighborhoods in Pittsburgh, PA stack up.
To do this I looked at several important aspects of a green community. Over the next two weeks you can come back as I post the results of my little project to uncover Pittsburgh’s best, greenest, most sustainable neighborhoods.
