pittsburgh pa: Pittsburgh Area Public High Schools Among Top In Nation - 06/17/10 08:31 AM
Newsweek recently reported that 9 high schools in Allegheny and Butler counties are among the top 6% in the nation. The schools were ranked on the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests given at a school in a school year, divided by the number of seniors graduating in May or June. The nine schools were: Blackhawk Upper St. Clair Quaker Valley Pine-Richland Hampton North Hills Pittsburgh Allderdice South Fayette North Allegheny Mt. If you got a real Christmas tree this year then be sure to complete the loop and recycle it now that it is time to take down the decorations and pack them away for another year. The City of Pittsburgh offers 2 options for recycling your tree in 2010. 1. Recycle your tree at the curb by leaving it out on your designated recycling day during the month of January. or 2. It seems these days lines are being drawn between those that "believe" in global warming and those that don't. Well guess what, I am not an environmentalist ("tree-hugger" as some might call me) because of global warming, although it is worth mentioning that I do believe the planet is warming, and I do believe that people do have some effect on that process. Good news about Pittsburgh's housing market! Home sales increased 7.4 percent during October and were even better in Allegheny county, where they were up 15.1 percent over October 2008. The median price rose by 3.4 percent to $120,000 and foreclosures fell by 8.8 percent.
