Whole Foods Market in Santa Clarita Goofs Up Big Time

In an effort to connect with the community of Santa Clarita, the Whole Foods market distanced itself even further. I'm a regular shopper at this store, and was excited to receive a flyer on Thursday announcing their big event this weekend. There were great offers at discounted prices, and the time to show up was between 12 and 3 on Sunday, even though the sale would be going on all weekend.

I showed up a little after noon on Sunday, only to find an angry crowd in the parking lot. It turned out they had run out of most of the sale items on Saturday or first thing Sunday morning. The 'Team Leader' told me they didn't know so many people would show up, and that they would do it again within a month. When asked about rain checks for the sold out items, he said 'We don't do that.' This means that 'they' give rain checks, but Whole Foods does not.

Overheard by one man on my way to my car - "We knew this was a snobby store, now we've seen it for ourselves. I won't be back."

A five dollar coupon good for the next visit would have been a measure of good will that could have brought people back. Shame on you, Whole Foods, for not anticipating the outcome of your advertising and making sure some items were held back for the 12 to 3 special event.

That's all for now; I'm heading to Gelson's in Chatsworth where they seem to have a better handle on things.

Rotary Santa Clarita Gives Out 250 Turkeys At SCV Food Pantry

With the need exceeding last years by more than 20%, the Santa Clarita Rotary Club stepped up and purchased 250 turkeys this year to donate to needy families throughout Santa Clarita. More than 25% of the club's members showed up at the SCV Food Pantry in Newhall to help with the distribution. This is just a small part of the good work that Rotary does here in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Just when we thought the annoying calls would slow down, it turns out that our cell phone numbers are now going public by being released to telemarketing companies. You can add your number to the DO NOT CALL list by calling 888-382-1222. You must call from your cell phone and it will block your number for 5 years. It is the National Do Not Call registry. I hope you can share this information with at least five other people so we can avoid these calls and the charges we will incur.

65 million people can't be wrong! I started on Facebook a few months ago. I now receive requests for appraisals and marketing help from people around North America. But I had to learn how to use it first. Here are some reasons to use Facebook if you are looking for new clients:

1. Find business contacts. Not only are your friends on Facebook, so are your prospects, your customers, people for referrals, and, of course, your competitors.

2. Build relationships. By engaging in conversations with your prospects and customers, you can better adapt your marketing and business services to meet their needs.

3. Target your niche. Users volunteer vast amounts of information about themselves that you can readily access. These kinds of demographics, psychographics, and technographics would previously have cost a fortune to access.

I've been away and Active Rain has gone on without me. Not that I ever thought that it wouldn't. It is just interesting to see what happens when the cat is away, if you know what I mean.

My focus in now on writing and marketing for real estate professionals. Several of my clients have enjoyed great success with their articles and blogs and their phones are ringing. I have now written 252 articles over at EzineArticles and I am also holding teleseminars to teach others how to do the same to market themselves in this new Web 2.0 world.

Facebook is another new place for me. I am connecting with realtors and appraisers who want to learn more about what I am doing. 2008 promises to be the continuation of my Great New Adventure into marketing.

Helping Realtors to Market Their Businesses

I was recently asked if I am a vendor here on Active Rain The answer is a resounding "No!". I am a real estate broker (Greenhouse Properties), and a state certified residential appraiser (Greenhouse Appraisals) here in California. I also am a former teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District.

About two years ago I decided that working 7 days a week, 12 months a year, was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I had always been considered the "techie" person at my school, so I started to write and market for my real estate business. Soon, I had more clients than I could handle.

I now work with only a handful of investors, invest in real estate for myself, and do not take on any clients for listings, sales, or appraisals. I also have resigned from the school district and work from my home office here in Santa Clarita, California.

My life is now devoted to helping small business people to attract new business by using the internet. I show them how to use social networking, article marketing, blogs and teleseminars to explode their business. And it works!

I'm going to Blog World Expo in Las Vegas

This Thursday and Friday, November 8th and 9th, I will be at Blog World Expo in Las Vegas. I am particularly looking forward to hearing Debbie Weil and Brian Clark of CopyBlogger. I am currently in the process of changing over from Typepad to WordPress for all of my blogs (I have 11, including ActiveRain) and the blogs I market for my clients.

I will bring back a full report of what the buzz is about blogging for real estate. The following week I'll be back in Vegas for the NAR Conference. Seth Godin is giving the keynote;that alone is worth the trip back to Las Vegas.
