Nanaimo's new zoning bylaw - 04/29/11 08:35 PM
Nanaimo's new zoning bylaw The city of Nanaimo is in the process of drafting a new zoning bylaw. They are proposing to rezone all properties in Nanaimo if it is adopted. A zoning bylaw advises builders, and potential purchasers how a particular property is to be used. The bylaw regulates the siting, height and density of buildings permitted on a lot. Nanaimo's proposed new zoning bylaw includes a number of significant changes, including: • Smaller residential lot size requirements. • New Corridor Zones that, for the first time ever in a zoning bylaw for Nanaimo, will establish a minimum height and (0 comments)

Real Estate in Nanaimo and the Baby boomers Ever since the 1950's baby boomers have made a huge impact on everything consumer oriented including real estate. Real Estate in Nanaimo and the baby boomers is no different in terms of impacting the market. I have just read the TD Canada Trust Boomer Buyers Report. With baby boomers reaching retirement age it stands to reason that a change in living accommodation will follow. How will this change impact the Nanaimo real estate market in particular? According to the report the following information was learned: •· Boomers in B.C. are least likely to say (1 comments)
Should you list your house when your neighbour’s house is also for sale? - 04/25/11 06:36 PM
Should you list your house when your neighbour's house is also for sale? After much discussion and humming and hawing you finally decide to list your house. Just as you are preparing to call your Realtor you notice that your neighbour's house is also for sale! This scenario plays out quite often particularly during a busy spring market. So, what should you do? I take the stance that having the neighbour's house for sale is a bonus! A bonus! How can having competition on your own street be a bonus? It's called exposure and exposure sells houses. The neighbour's house is (1 comments)

I spent the lunch hour yesterday touring the Pacifica Waterfront condos and townhouses at 38 Front Street in downtown Nanaimo. When we arrived for the tour we were given a map of the tower. We began at the 13th floor and toured our way down to the 3rd floor where we had a lovely lunch on the deck overlooking the waterfront. Wow! I have never had a proper tour of the building and this tour gave me a really good feel for the property. The units are very modern and very (0 comments)
Organizing Your Garage - 04/18/11 04:32 PM
Organizing Your Garage It's springtime and in our house that is a time to organize our garage. Over the winter months we have heaped our ski equipment, snow shovel, salt etc. haphazardly in our garage. By the time spring arrives it is a mess! As a Realtor I get to view a lot of homes and from what I have seen we are not alone in this. Here are a few tips on organizing your garage. •- If you use the garage for small woodworking projects or other chores that require a sturdy surface, consider installing a fold-down table on the (0 comments)

That is a question that comes up a lot these days as we see more and more bare land strata developments. I visited the Talk Strata site and this is how they have explained the difference: "Bare land strata is governed by The Bare Land Strata Regulations and refers to the subdivision of land into strata lots and common property. In a normal strata all of the lots share land and walls, as well (2 comments)
