I'm at Sherwin Williams on a Saturday morning and run into my client.  They're seriously thinking of relocating and are in the process of painting their bathroom.  First of all, I knew from when I had their 2 houses up for lease that the color was off in the master bath...You know the story...buy the tile cause it's on sale, get it installed, doesn't go with the dated tub, sinks, toilet...AAAHHUUUGGHH!  Now what... So, I pull up the recent sales and head over to their house to check on their 3rd color patch (knowing it was way too dark green).  I said, "If you're selling I'd better make sure it's not too dark."

The bath fixtures are almond..khaki/greenish...and the tile is rust, gray, greenish, bluish and the grout is a light grey.  We look at the color wheel and I pick a lite gray to coordinate with the tile and grout and tone down the weird tub (which is a massive step up to a huge tub...marble for days.) They will also paint the wood tone cabinets the lightest shade of gray on the wheel and the doors and trim will coordinate with the cabinets.  The ceiling fan will be replaced with a modern light fixture. 

 Staging will depend on whether some ceramic vases with grasses and artwork will pull the eye up off the tub or not. I suggested 2 (neutral/creme or white) panels hung from a shower curtain to cut down visually on the tub's enormity.  Possibly with a sheer in the center should the tub remain an eyesore with the new paint and tile. 

Design mantra: always buy "resale" taupe in tile and fixtures for resale value!!  Yes, I know you're thinking why didn't they replace the tub, etc...well, they own 3 houses and may be moving....will let you know how it turns out with photos once project is done.
