orlando budget: Orlando "The City Beautiful and Expensive" - the Orlando property tax saga continues - 09/13/08 08:53 AM
This Monday, September 15, at 7pm at Orlando City Hall, is the final budget hearing regarding an increased millage rate of 14%.  This property tax increase will basically wipe out any savings that taxpayers received from Amendment 1.
Orlando Florida is no longer an affordable place to live.  With all the money spent to build the 3 new venues, commuter railway, Burnham Institute, and UCF medical school you think that the Orlando Mayor and Commissioners would want people to be able to afford to live here.  These tax increases are simply making Orlando's workforce and small business owners have to move outside the city … (2 comments)

orlando budget: An open letter to Orlando Mayor Dyer and all Orlando City Commissioners - 08/31/08 11:19 AM
To Mayor Dyer and all Orlando City Commissioners:
(The only exception is Commissioner Phil Diamond who is the lone commissioner that is against raising millage rates. Good for him! A first-class letter similar to this was sent to the Mayor and all City Commissioners today.)
I wanted to voice my strong opposition to the Orlando city commission considering raising the property tax millage rate.  The city's budget was $604 million just 4 years ago and in the $400 million range just 8 years ago. Now the city's proposed budget is $919 million for 2008-2009 which is up from $820 million just last year. While … (3 comments)

orlando budget: City of Orlando meeting for property tax hike proposal - 07/19/08 07:33 AM
I have blogged extensively regarding the property tax issue and quite recently about the City of Orlando and its proposal to raise property taxes.  So I won't bore you to death with another rant on the issue.  I will let you know where you can rant for yourself though.
The City of Orlando may be making some decisions at the next council meeting this Monday 7/21/08 at 2:00 p.m. at City Hall.  The proposal is to raise the millage rate by one whole point.  That is $100 in additional taxes for every $100,000 in value.
If you are a property owner in the City of … (5 comments)

orlando budget: City of Orlando might be raising your property taxes - let's analyze shall we - 07/16/08 04:20 PM
The City of Orlando like so many other local governments in Florida right now is having budget problems.  The revenues coming in just aren't meeting their expenses. The city officials blame the shortfall on Amendment 1 that was overwhelmingly passed by voters back in January.
Liberal Democrats like the Mayor Buddy Dyer and Commissioner Patty Sheehan want to scare us all to death by claiming fire and police services will get slashed to the bone.  I almost wonder how the city operated a few years ago on the meager little budgets they had at that time.  Patty Sheehan apparently thinks that when your … (5 comments)
