fraud: Mortgage Fraud .................. It Is Still Here. - 02/08/08 09:31 PM

I got a call from a young unmarried couple this week that went to school with my two sons, and whom a Realtor that I partner with referred to me. This young couple had been Pre-Qualified by one of the major Internet Lenders that advertises a lot in my area. This Realtor has been around long enough, and burned enough times by this type of Lender, that he does not trust their Pre-Qualification Letters.

Last Friday a local Attorney was sentenced to 30 months in jail for defrauding at least a dozen of his clients. I have chosen to write a blog about this is for four reasons,
First, because I personally know this Attorney and his family. Second, because it involves Real Estate transactions Third, to show the damage to people’s lives when “Fraud” is committed. There have been some excellent blogs written over the last week about fraud in the Real Estate Industry. Most of them have concentrated on how people in this industry have tried to “De-Fraud” the system. But as we well know, fraudulent activity is not limited to the people who work in the Real Estate Industry, fraud can also come from the clients we deal with.
