Yes, friends, she's my darling daughter, so forgive a mother's pride...and please tune in. She's beautiful, hysterical, and soooo talented. No, none of it came from me - I just popped her out and raised her on martinis, the Stones, and John Irving. Okay, maybe it was I who was drinking the martinis. I can't … (35 comments)

los angeles: Hollywood Bowl or Bust! - 07/09/11 08:54 PM
Several clients have called today to wish me a great evening at the Hollywood Bowl. It's West Side Story night, and I am truly looking forward to a great event as we:
"celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic film - winner of ten Academy Awards, including Best Picture - as we present a world-premiere event. The LA Phil plays Leonard Bernstein's electrifying orchestral score and memorable songs with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim live, while the newly re-mastered film is shown in glorious high definition on the Bowl's big screen with the original vocals and dialog intact. This classic romantic tragedy, one … (11 comments)

los angeles: Is That Foot In Your Mouth Tasty? - 12/21/10 01:19 PM

This post was inspired by a recent conversation with an agent who told me that the house on the hill above was slipping, "but only a little." I live in earthquake territory, folks. There's no such thing as "slipping a little." That's like being "partially pregnant." Thus, I asked around and gathered some contributions to the Words to Avoid list. Please enjoy:
First, the Absurd...
"Oh, heck, we all grew up with black mold." (Is that why your eyes roll inward and your tongue hangs out?)
"They had a pot-bellied pig that ruined the carpet." (I had a pot-bellied husband … (76 comments)

los angeles: MLS Quirky Turkeys - 12/03/10 08:58 PM

I hope you all had a great Turkey Day. And speaking of turkeys, I found a few MLS turkeys last week that will brighten your holiday season. These offerings from the MLS and email fliers just confirm the fact that there's no fool like an old Tool. Thanks to Jane Peters and Bruce Lemieux for their great contributions.
From Decay to DOA
"New Constriction needs finishes" (Old Intestine needs fiber.)
"Hurry - this will be sod soon." (So will my grandma, but it's rude to rush her. )
"Coffened ceilings" (I see dead people.)
"Enjoy the sunrise with your … (11 comments)

los angeles: L.A.'S INFAMOUS LAUREL CANYON - 12/02/10 01:46 AM

WELCOME TO MY HOME, FRIENDS  -  INFAMOUS LAUREL CANYON

From 1912 to 1918, an electric trolley transported visitors to Laurel Canyon from busy Sunset Boulevard below. At Lookout Mountain Road, in the heart of the canyon, travelers stopped for food and libation at a rough hewn road house that was always abuzz with activity. In the early 1920's, a local contractor built an inn the top of the canyon in an area that offered breathtaking views of the growing city of Los Angeles. When the Lookout Mountain Inn burned completely down a few years after it opened, travelers began investing in cabins of … (10 comments)

SWIMMING POOLS, MOVIE STARS - PLAN YOUR VISIT TO LOS ANGELES - WE'RE WAITING FOR YOU!
Hi Friends - In the past few weeks I have had several inquiries about the top things to do in a short visit to L.A., so I want to provide some suggestions for my out-of-state friends and clients. One really great list

The Beach at Santa Monica
was compiled by Joel Stein of the Los Angeles Times. This is his list of the best things to do in 24 hours: http://www.time.com/time/travel/cityguide/article/0,31489,1844490_1844431_1844366,00.html

los angeles: MICHAEL J. FOX - BACK TO THE FUTURE - 11/08/10 03:29 PM

Friends, as an actress I had the wonderful experience of working with Michael J. Fox - one of the kindest and most selfless actors I ever had the opportunity to meet. This weekend is the last weekend of the Back to the Future celebration here in L.A. If you are in the area, please take the time to enjoy this great event, as all proceeds go to Team Fox for Parkinson's research. Thanks, and enjoy! (information below, or click here to contact me)

los angeles: The Best of L.A. Dining - 10/16/10 03:27 PM

I just received my third call this week from clients who are new to The City of Angels.  They all asked the same question: "Where is the best place to eat in L.A.?"  That's a hard question to answer, as L.A. is an enormous city with every type of cuisine imaginable. Thus, for those  hungry Los Angelenos, or for those of you who are planning your next visit to our fair city, I decided to post a link to the premier restaurant guide. It breaks down the best restaurants by reviews, neighborhoods, cuisine type and cost. As they say at … (16 comments)

los angeles: The MLS - Are Ya' Coming or Going? - 04/09/10 10:42 AM

Ah...another week of  weird descriptions and head scratchers on the MLS. One home was "warm and cotzly" and another was "near a succer field"...but they are no competition for what follows!
Thanks to Matt Stigliano of Re/Max, Patrick Martin of Sotheby's International Realty, and Nashville Broker Grant Hammond  for their contributions, and thanks to the MLS for such a great read!
Masters and Disasters
"Master will thrill you" (But his wife may shoot you...)
"Two hoses on a lot" (...And one hoser agent.)
"Grass tiles in shower" (Cows grazing in bathroom)
"Awe-expiring view" (House with killer views)
"Steal of a deal … (21 comments)

THE PRICE OF LIVING IN LOS ANGELES, THE CITY OF GOLD:
Hey  friends - instead of  a humorous look at the MLS this week, I wanted to share something personal - my wonderful city of Los Angeles.  Some of the most fabulous homes in the world are here, but one must pay a dear price for the privilege of living on these streets of gold. I am often asked, "What are the most elite streets, and where are they?" Los Angeles is a sprawling city with many neighborhoods, so where is the pot of gold?
Well, it's certainly not … (0 comments)

los angeles: REAL ESTATE IN LA LA LAND - SHOCK AND AWE - 11/06/09 02:35 PM

There is no end to bad taste. Last week after recounting some of the wacky decorating schemes I have witnessed during my time warp in Los Angeles, I received many comments from others who have witnessed "decorating" madness and mayhem in their towns as well. Here are a few more to ponder:
Shock and Awe...and Just Plain Weird
The mask like the one in The Texas Chain Saw Murders hanging over a producer's toilet. (Obviously intended to scare the crap outta you.)
The Halloween display in Laurel Canyon that consisted of a car, under which were bloody body parts and … (10 comments)
