Iowa winter: How much more can we take? - 01/31/11 02:50 PM
Here in Iowa its 24 degrees with 16 inches of snow expected over the next 2 days. Overall this winter hasn't been too bad but this could be the biggest storm we have had for a long time.
Winter is the hardest time for us. Mentally its just tough. We try to leave for the beach in December when we make our goal and we enjoyed ourselves already in December in Maui for two full weeks. Dang that feels like a long time ago! My tan is already gone!
Now is when we have to remind ourselves why we live here … (2 comments)

Cedar Rapids Real Estate: January sales exactly the same as last year - 01/31/11 10:23 AM
Last year the Cedar Rapids real estate market was selling a lot of first time home buyers their first home taking advanage of the tsx credit.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I noticed that January 2011 is virually exactly the same as 2010.

The Cedar Rapids market is still strong with home prices staying steady and rates are sill low. However, the rates are beginning to move upward and buyers should take a strong look at … (1 comments)

Your real competition is yourself...not your fellow agent - 01/31/11 10:01 AM
We all know them. Agents that compare themselves to others almost everyday. How they dress, what their marketing brochure looks like or even their business card. We check out how many blogs they write on active rain and check their numbers on the MLS.
Competition is good. Its what makes all of us better. People who say they aren't competitive always make me wonder what they do for not only a living but I wonder how they apply for the job in the first place. The truth is we are all in competition. However who are you really in competitioin with?

Neighbor Found Lost Key in Snow – We SOLD the house! - 01/21/11 12:29 PM
It was 9 degrees and dark on the front porch of the house. Two keys plopped into my frozen hand to open up the door. Before I could get a grip on them, one key dropped beneath me, bounced to the left & ended up in a snow pile. With no mark in the snow, we started to dig into the snow hoping for the best. After 10 minutes of freezing the hands, we decided to part for the evening due to the frigid temperatures

I decided to shed some light on the situation and pulled my car forward with … (4 comments)

A must read for Cedar Rapids "First Time Home Buyers." - 01/19/11 10:46 AM
Don't get inflicted with "First Time Home Buyer-itis."
This is our 10th year of helping home buyers purchase their first home in the Cedar Rapids real estate market, almost everytime the buyer will get 'the disease." It is a form of buyers remorse based on fear. (False Evidence  Appearing Real)
Sometimes the reluctance to go ahead with the purchase comes during or after the deal is being negotiated. Sometimes it comes after the home inspection, when the buyer finds out that the house isn't "perfect." Because first time home buyers look at lower end homes the houses need a little work. This … (1 comments)

Seller's agent cliche' statement.... - 01/17/11 02:28 PM
Over the past 6 months or so when ever we have an interested buyer in a property the conversation between us and the seller's agent goes something like this...
US -"Hello Mr. (Mrs) seller's agent, we have a buyer that saw the house last night and we will be writing an offer tomorrow."
SELLERS AGENT-Great! Now I want you to know that we have had a lot of interest in the house. You aren't in competition yet but may be, so don't delay your offer."
The conversation is almost always a variation of this, with the selling agent stating the time … (5 comments)
