Keeping Children Safe 6 ~ Adam Walsh - 01/21/07 10:51 AM
I was living in Hawaii at the time Adam was kidnapped in 1981 and I remember it like yesterday. We were still living in the Dark Ages of cable at the time. The only cable channel I can remember was HBO and that was still in its infancy. In Hawaii at this time cable was mainly used for getting rid of the rabbit ears on your TV or the antenna off the roof. My point being, this was the first time I remember a child abduction case being nationwide headline news without the benefit of the technology we now have. In (4 comments)
Keeping Children Safe 5 ~ Denise Marhoefer, A Childs Advocate - 01/14/07 10:19 AM
I have to even out these blogs with good and evil, so today I'm going to introduce you to a lady that spends her life helping children. I've not personally met her, good friends of mine locally gave me her email and we began to correspond through emails when I began this series. Meet Denise Marhoefer, a child safety advocate, a champion of the children, a hero if you will. She's been an investigative journalist for over 12 yrs going into the dark depths of child abuse and molestation. Throughout her years of investigating, research, writing and becoming a published author (6 comments)
Keeping Children Safe 4 ~ The Adult Life Of A Monster - 01/13/07 08:59 AM
Joseph E. Duncan III is sitting in prison for the rest of his life. It took 26 years, it cost the innocence of at least 4 children and the lives of 5 known innocent people. 1980 a 16 yr old Joseph Duncan raped a 14 yr old boy at knife point in Minnesota. He was charged a year later with child molestation and sentenced to 20yrs, he was paroled in 1994. He was diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder while in prison. He violated his parole and returned to prison to finish his sentence. His parole violation appears to be leaving the state. (10 comments)
Keeping Children Safe 3 ~ A Happy Ending Reported Today! - 01/13/07 06:53 AM
I am so elated to bring this blog to you all this morning, normally missing children cases aren't solved so quickly and, with a happy ending. When I woke up and saw this headline today it made me smile from ear to ear. The best part is it has two happy endings. I had just heard about this boy yesterday, it had been a super hectic week for me, haven't had to time to catch the national news except bits and pieces of GMA as I got ready for work in the ams. Apparently the young boy went missing after school (3 comments)
Fleas will detour a future buyer from your property just as fast as a bad odor, poor housekeeping, unruly pets or unsightly yards will. The prospective buyer won't see them, but as soon as that little critter jumps up on their legs and chomps down, you can pretty much forget that sale (Fleas can live and reproduce without a "host", so even if the property is vacant you're problem is still there.) If your practice flea prevention you won't have a problem when it comes time to sell your home, and the fleas won't be there to chase anyone away! Living the "Gypsy Lifestyle" (7 comments)
Daytona Beach is all abuzz with talk of the "Thunder" being back in town the last couple days. When you hear "Thunder" mentioned this time of year they aren't speaking of the weather or our 2 yr old Arena Football Team, The Daytona Beach Thunder, they are speaking of NASCAR Thunder! I've been hearing that Thunder for the past 2 days here at the office as the cars come up on Turn 2 and head to Turns 3 & 4, our office is about a mile from the Daytona International Speedway, as the Great Blue Heron flies off the backstretch and heads south. usually I (2 comments)
Keeping Children Safe 2 ~ Internet Predators - 01/07/07 11:13 AM
The internet is a wonderful learning tool. I am a sponge when it comes to the internet, I soak up more useful and useless information online, oh if they had this when I was a kid... I've been online since 1996, I had Windows 3.1 and AOL 3.0 with a 28K Modem. The computer sat in the living room where anyone could walk by and see what was on the screen. My 13 yr old daughter (actually step-daughter) used go online and chat, once she called me over to the screen and showed me a IM (Instant Message) I forget what (6 comments)
Keeping Children Safe 1 ~ I Know My Name Is Steven - 01/06/07 09:20 AM
December 4th, 1972 Merced, CA 7 year old Steven Stayner was walking home alone from school (he usually walked home with his friends) when a man approached him, the man told Steven he was looking for donations for his church. Steven told him that Steven's mom might donate and to follow Steven home. The man convinced Steven to get in his car after a couple minutes. (Steven initially said it wasn't that far, he could walk) A man by the name of Kenneth Parnell was waiting behind the wheel of the car for Steven. They drove off to Yosemite CA and it (9 comments)
Question for the Active Rain Community - 01/04/07 01:24 PM
I've been thinking about doing a series of blogs on Child Safety. In these blogs I want to reintroduce you to children who were lost (and some found) to Predators. I plan on using words like "sexual molestation, sodomy, murder and decapitation". I want to frighten, no, I want to scare you. At the end of each blog I will add links to resourceful websites or advice on how to keep your child or even yourself safe. Before I do all this, I would like to know how well this would be received in the Active Rain Community. Please let me (10 comments)

It's true! 1903 was when racing began on the beaches of Ormond Beach for the "Ormond Challenge Cup." Winton "Bullet" driven by Alexander Winton raced The Olds "Pirate" owned by Ransom Olds driven by HT Thomas The race was "so exciting it is still discussed today" The "Bullet" managed to (4 comments)
