pelican bay: Help Me Bail Out Midori! Please?!?! - 08/07/08 01:52 PM

Midori Miller, Manger of Century 21 Sundance's Pelican Bay office is going to jail!
Yes, you read right! JAIL!
Ok... not city or county jail but MDA Jail!

Here's the deal:
Midori is giving up her time to go behind bars until her "bail" of $3,200 is met to free her.
How you can help:
The Muscular Dystrophy Association & Midori have a secure site set up where you can donate money towards setting her free!
It doesn't have to be a lot, just a few dollars. The money goes towards fighting MDA and helping Jerry's Kids.
 Did you … (6 comments)

pelican bay: The Glide Of The Blue Heron - 02/07/08 06:47 PM
When I posted Pelican Bay Shenanigans ~ The Video, Carol Smith of Toledo came by with the comment and I quote "But the Great Blue Herons are so pretty to watch.  They operate in a stealth mode that the military should study."
How right she is! The grace of this bird in flight with a wing span of at least 6 feet is just a treat to watch. Little did Carol know I had been trying to catch my Heron friend on his final approach of his glide path to me on video. I finally had success!
I really wanted to get the … (6 comments)

pelican bay: Pelican Bay Shenanigans ~ The Video - 02/04/08 08:44 AM
You really liked the photos I took in my post titled Pelican Bay Shenanigans so I thought I would share with you some video I took of my two feathered friends.
Sometimes it is hard to believe what people tell you..
You know.. like when they tell you a two foot bird chases them?
That's almost like the story about the fish that got away right?
Ah, but I have proof.. Not only does that nasty bugger of the Anahinga (AKA Snake Bird) chase the Great Blue Heron, he chases me! Take a look...

pelican bay: Pelican Bay Shenanigans - 01/16/08 03:37 PM
Lately one of my feathered friends here at the Pelican Bay Century 21 Office has ~ shall we say ~ become very "territorial"
Last summer I wrote about him in Lunchtime At The Canals Of Pelican Bay. At that time I thought HE was a SHE. I've gotten a lot closer since then and realized he is a HE by the color of his feathers.
The Anahinga doesn't know how to share or play well with others. When my friend the Great Blue Heron comes gliding in to have breakfast or lunch, it's a good bet that Anahinga will chase him off. This has been going … (17 comments)

pelican bay: Bikers Descend Onto Pelican Bay - 09/13/07 10:42 AM

On Saturday, September 8th the residents of Pelican Bay, a gated "golf community" here in Daytona had their quiet lifestyle interrupted for a couple hours by the thunder of around 50 bikers and their machines.

They were riding up and down Pelican Bay Drive and in and out of the Pelican Bay Country Club, side by side on their shinning machines, but no one told the residents why their otherwise quiet lifestyle was being so noisily interrupted! Yes, Steve and I were among them.

We were filming a … (12 comments)

pelican bay: Egyptian Geese In Daytona Beach? - 06/09/07 08:36 AM
I went out to feed the Pelican Bay critters when I arrived at work on Wednesday and was greeted by an old friend, the Great Blue Heron.
She looked a bit frazzled and hungry. She nailed two fish rather quickly, but my camera was in the office.

I looked across the water and saw two ducks swimming my way, at first I thought they were young Muscovy's, but as they got closer I realized they were too pretty.

They came right out of the water, walked around me, then stood behind me looking up towards … (47 comments)

pelican bay: The Baby's Have Hatched! - 06/05/07 08:16 PM
On Saturday Cyndee Haydon posted In Clearwater, Florida ~ Who left that Fowl Trail? then I followed her lead with My Photos Of Some Florida Birds, I showed you a photo of a Brown Thrasher nesting. Monday morning I arrived at work to find a young man cutting the hedges, right where the nest was. My heart dropped! He was using good old fashioned manual hedge trimmers but I was panicked. I unlocked the office, dropped my purse, camera and lunch and told him "STOP, there's a nest!" I think I scared him...
I ran to the other side of the bushes where the nest was, … (25 comments)

pelican bay: My Photos Of Some Florida Birds - 06/02/07 11:28 AM
Cyndee Haydon just wrote a great post Who left that Fowl Trail? about our wonderful "Birding Trails" here in Florida. I thought I would follow up on her blog with some photo's I've taken of some of the beautiful birds that you might see when you come to Florida.
Our Century 21 Sundance Daytona office is located just outside the gated golf community of Pelican Bay, which is home to several different species of birds (but no pelicans).
I often take my camera outside when I take a break and go feed the fish and turtles.

This is a pair of … (38 comments)
