Nashville Home Inspection - Electrical Wiring - What's Wrong With This Picture? 7.27.11
HINT:  Orange extension cords are a red flag during a Home Inspection.

ANSWER:  HABITEC does not recommend the use of an extension cord as permanent wiring.  These cords usually come with plug attachments at both ends but sometimes people cut those off and use the cord for permanent wiring.  This is a fire waiting to happen for two reasons.  Not only has this homeowner used the improper material as an electrical conductor, they have also not installed the conductor into the metal junction box correctly.  You can see … (0 comments)

nashville building inspection: Nashville Home Inspection - Vegetation in Close Proximity to a Building - 03/01/11 07:24 PM
Proximity of Vegetation To A Building
When HABITEC Home and Building Inspections, LLC, conducts Home or Building Inspection in Nashville or Middle Tennessee, inspection of the vegetation at the exterior or the building is one of the components of the inspection.  Vegetation in close proximity to a home or building can have a negative impact on the structure.  The negative impact can include mechanical damage, limited access, mold, structural damage, and infestation from insects, rodents and/or reptiles.  Sometimes the effect of the vegetation is not so subtle, as in the picture below.

HINT:  Think about pedestrians?

ANSWER:  Where will the car stop based on the barrier?  Right at the end of the sidewalk for the pedestrians.  Look at the photo below to see how that turns out (same lot, different location).  And that car could have pulled forward another 2 feet.

What is unfortunate is that sometimes the obvious is not enforced.  In this apartment complex, the pedestrians were … (2 comments)

HABITEC offers home and building inspections in Nashville and Middle Tennessee.  Almost all home inspections involve an attic staircase.  What's wrong with the pictures below?
HINT:  Both staircases are in the same home.  In the pic below the ladder seems a bit short.

In the pic below the ladder seems a bit too long.

ANSWER:  Hmmm!  Could it be that they installed them in the wrong locations??!!  As in backwards??  What were they thinking??
