Hint: It's in Rome, Italy.

ANSWER:  This is the Roman Colosseum and the area below the arena where the Gladiators fought.  In the picture above is a view of the Colosseum in Rome, looking from the south end towards the north across the arena area.  The area in the foreground is the "floor" of the Colosseum arena where the actions took place.  The Colosseum is interesting for many reasons, but the area below the arena of the Colosseum was a maze of hidden tunnels.  All sorts of stuff went on down there to enable lions and tigers and bad guys (oh … (2 comments)

Two of the most visible and impressive components of Ancient Roman structural engineering and architecture include the arch and the column.  This article is about the arches designed and used frequently in ancient Roman engineering.
