miscellaneous ramblings: We Are Family! Connecting through Social Networking.... - 01/06/08 03:07 PM
We are family was a song done by Sister Sledge in the 80's. I connect life events with music which is something that I've done as long back as I can remember. This week we have welcomed in another new year with the start to 2008'. We've read many posts here on Active Rain as well as through other social networks. Connecting through social networking has catapulted us into a new age in a way that many of us never dreamed imaginable in our life times. This past year has been such a myriad of events in the world and it promises

miscellaneous ramblings: It's A Wonderful Life for this Pascack Valley Realtor® Couple - 12/16/07 03:05 PM
It's A Wonderful Life for this Pascack Valley Realtor® Couple - Last night was the night we chose to muster up that magical feeling called "Christmas Spirit". So we popped in my all time favorite Classic Christmas movie, "It's A Wonderful Life". I know what many of you must be thinking about how cliche that is but truthfully I see this movie through different eyes every year. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that as we grow older, we grow wiser? Whatever the case may be, this movie seems to echo the way I feel about the people we serve in

miscellaneous ramblings: Holiday Traditions>>What Do They Mean To You? - 12/14/07 10:30 AM
Holiday Traditions-What do they mean to you? This concept is something that came to mind when, this year, my older sister decided to pass her traditional Gingerbread Holiday cookie recipe down to my daughter. I mentioned this to a customer of ours who thought it would be nice to start a holiday cookie tradition with her little girl. Now I've never been one to make recipes a part of our real estate marketing plan but the idea of starting traditions was something that resonated with me. If you look up the word "Tradition"in Wikipedia, the word means to "hand down" or to "hand

miscellaneous ramblings: Give Thanks Today Like There Is No Tommorow! Here's Why..... - 11/15/07 07:30 PM
Give Thanks Today Like There Is No Tomorrow! This is my Thanksgiving Post and here's why. All the years I was growing up my family has celebrated Thanksgiving together at my Aunt's home in Hillsdale, New Jersey. The Thanksgiving table stretched out across two rooms to include all the family who traveled from all over to join in the celebration. We each had our own task for the day's celebration. I was always in charge of baking the cookies, my Mom brought the green beans and mashed potatoes, one cousin brought the sweet potatoes while the other provided pumpkin pie. My Aunt

miscellaneous ramblings: How Do You Perceive Luck? - 08/11/07 10:26 AM
How Do You Perceive Luck? Now that must be the million dollar question! I posted this title as a Draft and I noticed it had 40 views. The title was all I posted to remind myself that I wanted to do a post at some later date. Obviously it struck a chord with some people. Do you perceive Luck in terms of how much "MONEY" you have? As the third child of four children, I've always thought that I had to fight extra hard to be noticed. Born on Friday the Thirteenth was just the icing on the cake for me! Yikes!

miscellaneous ramblings: Is Time On Your Side? - 08/06/07 11:05 AM
Is Time on your side? How much time is enough time? Do you ever feel like there aren't enough hours in a day or enough time to spend with the ones you love? This weekend brought these questions to the forfront in my life and I experienced a "sudden shift in priorities". My Mother who is almost 80 years old and a very active woman, working two part time jobs, became ill at 7:00 am Friday morning. I was forced to drop everything I was doing and rush to her house to help her. It was scarey sitting by her bedside with the

miscellaneous ramblings: For Sale By Owner - A true Story! - 07/31/07 05:41 PM
We'd like to tell a story today. It's The Story of the "For Sale By Owner". So gather round and listen up! This is one for the books. We were contacted from some out of town Buyers a few months back through our website, www.HammersTeam.com. They were a young couple transferring with their company and the original contact was made by the young man's Mother. Being parents ourselves, we understand the concept of helping your children to make major decisions like purchasing a place to live. We did it ourselves when we bought our first home and we certainly respect it.

miscellaneous ramblings: Pascack Valley Real Estate>>Why Real Estate is like Eyeglasses - 06/24/07 12:29 PM
Hopefully my title caught your eye (pardon the pun) and you're wondering "Why Real Estate is like Eyeglasses?" Yesterday Bob and I got new Eyeglasses. For those of you who can relate to this, you may get the analogy. Let's look at this for a moment, shall we? I had always maintained 20/20 perfect eyesight. However, as I grew closer to the half century mark, things started to get a bit fuzzy. So I started using over the counter reading glasses and kept a pair in every room of the house. One day I noticed that my long distance eyesight was not

miscellaneous ramblings: Pascack Valley Real Estate>>Are Buyers Boycotting the real estate industry? - 05/10/07 11:14 PM
After having heard numerous comments from Buyers recently saying that they would wait for prices to come down more before they Buy, it dawned on me! Are buyers Boycotting the real estate industry? What would this do to the local markets and the economy? Will home prices actually come down? Will Interest Rates come down or will they go up? Will Inventory shrink or will it grow? Will homes remain on the market longer? Will this cause and effect have an impact on the economy? Some believe the Media has played a huge role in causing home prices to come down and

miscellaneous ramblings: Do You Put People Before Money? - 04/26/07 04:28 PM
We would like to pose this question today - "Do You Put People Before Money?" In any business there are moral challenges that must be addressed almost daily. As Realtors© we are challenged on so many levels. Working on a commission-only basis is not for everyone. Of course there is flexibility but the flip side of the coin is the fact that there are no guarantees of income. This post was inspired by an e-mail we received today from a Buyer whom we have had the pleasure to be working with. Turns out our Buyer has had health issues which may prevent them from purchasing their

miscellaneous ramblings: Pascack Valley Real Estate>>How This Realtor® Couple Finds Humor In Real Estate - 03/29/07 05:51 PM
We are often asked how we manage to work together and remain married. We are a Full Time Husband & Wife Team selling Real Estate in the Pascack Valley area of Bergen County, New Jersey. We have a long history together having grown up in the area and that helps. We're each other's best friends. But Buying and Selling Real Estate is a serious business. Since laughing smoothes out the rough spots of life, we laugh alot and often. Mostly it's at each other. This morning I read a Blog here on Active Rain by Teresa Boardman that made me laugh out loud. It talked about the dilemma

miscellaneous ramblings: Pascack Valley Baby Boomers | Get In Touch With Your Roots! - 01/14/07 06:09 PM
Get In Touch With Your Roots! It's a well known fact that the population as a whole is living longer today. Baby Boomers such as Bob had fathers who served in World War II. My parents were the generation that followed close behind Bob's parents. Many of us so-called "Baby Boomers" have parents that lived through the Depression Era and post Depression Era. You'll probably find that this generation are great Story Tellers with a wealth of knowledge to share. This opens up opportunites for many of us to get in touch with our "Roots"! If you're like me and are fortunate enough to still have

miscellaneous ramblings: Number One Realtor! - 01/06/07 09:14 PM
As I read through the Local Newspapers thumbing through page after page of Realtor Ads all proclaiming to be "Number 1", I'm left to ponder what it means and how does this label pertain to the general public? If you're a Buyer, for instance, are you concerned with how much your Realtor of choice sold and for how many years in a row? Will it be important to you to know how many homes your Realtor of choice Listed if you are thinking of Selling your Home? How many Sales would be a sufficient number to instill confidence? I ponder these points because it

miscellaneous ramblings: Pascack Valley Baby Boomers>>Fond Remembrances of "The Healing President" - 01/02/07 11:43 AM
I sit here today unable to take my eyes off the T.V. set. As Pascack Valley Baby Boomers and teenagers growing up in the 1970's the Funeral of President Ford holds memories for us of a much more innocent time. "Without Pardon there can be no healing" were the words that remembered this 38th President this morning. After the pardon of President Nixon, he came to be known as "The Healing President". Those days were not unlike the current times, fraught with turmoil. But along came this president with his plaid garments, and his trademark clumsiness offering the comedians of our times

miscellaneous ramblings: Home is Where The Heart Is for the Holidays - 12/17/06 03:18 PM
While driving down the road on my way home from the grocery store the other night around dusk, I started thinking about being a Realtor at this wonderous time of year. In our area, there are homes of all different styles, sizes, conditions, etc.. I was noticing how despite the grandeur, or lack thereof, of the different homes, the homeowners had done their personal best to Deck the Halls. Some homes had elaborate displays of lights, blow up Santas and Snowmen while others had placed a simple wreath on their front door. It got me to thinking how fortunate those of

miscellaneous ramblings: Success Is Just A Frame Of Mind - 11/28/06 05:48 PM
I've been a Realtor since the late 90's and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. In fact, when I follow the ripple effect, I find there are usually more transactions that result from the success of a single contact. We have listed properties where the listing generated a contact with a buyer that purchased something else and so on and so forth. My husband and I have been a team since the early 2000's when he joined me to form the HammersTeam. We're in a service business of helping people so as long as we've helped someone and were able to earn a living

miscellaneous ramblings: Homes For The Holidays! - 11/21/06 08:32 PM
Buying a home around the Holidays isn't such a bad thing. In fact we purchased our home the day after Christmas and moved in around the end of February. The best thing about purchasing a home around the Holidays is - For Sellers - the most motivated Buyers are out and ready to buy, For Buyers - Sellers are usually motivated to negotiate. Hoping to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Yes, it's a very high stress time of year but it's also the most festive time of year as well. Sellers can take advantage of decorating and creating
