Real estate doesn’t end just because it is Friday night

Last night I get a phone call at 8 P.M. from an agent I did a closing with at 10 A.M., she said that my seller was not out of the house yet and the buyers are mad.  I said he was to be out by 3 P.M. and I will call him to find out what is going on.  I called him and he said the buyer’s husband said he could finish in the morning that they would not be moving in till the morning.  My client said … (48 comments)

Order Next Year's Calendars Now - 06/26/12 08:18 AM

Can I get a big discount by ordering my calendars in July?  We have an agent in our office that asked me if I placed my order for calendars for 2013.  I guess it makes sense to look into it doing this time of the year.

Calendars keep your name and picture in front of people for 12 months.  If they are the big calendars with pictures and room to write appointments on, they will be used and stay up on the wall.  I think this is something to look into now since sales have picked up and if … (13 comments)

Don’t tell me you are sending me a contract and then nothing - 06/25/12 08:51 AM
Don’t tell me you are sending me a contract and then nothing.
I guess we have all had this happen where an agent calls and tells you his clients love the place and I will have a contract over to you tonight.  You wait and wait and wait and nothing.  This happened  twice yesterday, this morning I figure I would have 2 on my computer for two homes but of course nothing showed up.
A wise man once told me, Do not believe everything other agents tell you.  Well I figure I will call them after 9 this morning, (I … (25 comments)

What Kind of Club Did He Use to Hit This one? - 06/24/12 03:35 PM
What Kind of Club Did He Use to Hit This one?

A friend of mine emailed me a picture from when he was playing golf last week.  His drive landed in a strange place.  I guess they were looking for the ball for about 5 minutes when one of them spotted his ball.  It was sitting in the middle of the tree.

I just wanted to know what club he used to hit it out of this spot.

Sometimes things are in the least likely spot and right in front of our noses.  Wish I had been … (11 comments)

Pardon me, but I am off this afternoon. - 06/22/12 07:26 AM
Pardon me, but I am off this afternoon.
I have a tee time at 2:10 today to play golf, it is only the second time that I am getting out for 2012 and it is only 9 holes once again.  Of course, I got a phone call yesterday afternoon that a contract on one of our listing is coming in today.  Later last night I got another phone call that on another home will be receiving an offer.
Is this all it takes, make plans for something personal and you are bound to get contracts in.  I hope people understand, I … (12 comments)

What do Customers really want? - 06/20/12 10:58 AM

What do Customers really want?

I was listening to a cd today and it pointed out some very interesting points of what customers want.   I used to think the rule was be available 24/7, but that burns you out and you start making mistakes.  I think clients really want the following:

1.  Stay in Touch

2.  Save Time and Money

3.  Fair and Honest

4.  No SURPRISES

5.  Make it Easier

6.  Input from us

Each client that walks away from the closing table happy with me, is the potential for many … (48 comments)

The Garden Party Was a Hit - 06/17/12 11:46 AM
Well, we pulled it off.  The day started with a funeral of a close friend’s mother.  It was a curve ball but I figured I could still pull it off.  I made some of the food on Friday night and frosted 2 cakes 15 minutes before the first people showed up.

From veggie pizza to cheesesteaks to sloppy joes and periogies, there was lots of food to eat and I think no one went home hungry.  Of course we had brownies, Hamm Beer Cake, Wills Lazy man cake but I forgot to put out the 4 peanut pies (what can … (7 comments)

Went to a garden party - 06/14/12 07:28 AM

“I went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends A chance to share old memories and play our songs again”
This is a great song by Ricky Nelson that has been going through my head lately.  I am having my annual garden party this Saturday night.

I do all the cooking and this year will be a Philly Cheese Steak, Pieorgies, and a special Sloppy Joe Barbeque.

Each year we invite different groups of folks, from past clients, my wife’s law firm, neighbors, real estate agents we have closed deals with, and … (23 comments)

Second to last day of vacation. - 06/06/12 08:44 AM
Second to last day of vacation.
Went it comes to spending time with the grandkids, I always try to find something that they will remember for a long time.   Yesterday was a drive down the Amish country in Ohio and to a Wildlife ranch that was run by the Amish.
We got a wagon ride with John, our driver, Luke and Frank his horses to pull the wagon.  From a camel, to pot bellies pigs to deer and lots of other animals, the grand kids had fun,  They even got to feed some of the animals, my 5 old year … (12 comments)

Teaching the grandkids how to bake while on vacation - 06/04/12 09:13 AM
Teaching the grandkids how to bake while on vacation
Teaching the grandkids how to bake this morning.  It worked out pretty good, my 7 year old did the dough, my 5 year old did the filling and my bashful 3 year put the peanuts on top.  Of course the 1 year old has to wait his turn till he is 3.  The Grandkids made NutTussies from my grandmother’s recipe.  My daughter always has me make them when I am visiting them in Ohio.  In a couple more years, I can sit back and expect the grandkids to make them for me.

When is it time to recharge the batteries. - 06/02/12 01:53 PM
When is it time to recharge the batteries.
When is it time to recharge the batteries.  After the last three months of increased business, working  6 to 7 days a week and no time for golf, I am off to another state (Ohio) to visit the grandkids for a 6 day trip.  Part of the reason is, the youngest grandson just turned 1 and the birthday party is this Sunday, and my daughter wants me to cook for the party.  Only 40 people, but cooking is relaxing for me.
I am so lucky that I have a business partner, Belinda Spillman, … (12 comments)
