homes and land of lancaster county: Memorial Day to me is: - 05/26/12 07:07 AM
Remembering what those in our armed forces do to protect our freedom is one thing, but we also like to remember those who had no voice, no body to care for them, we like to stop for the one. It all begins with one. This Sunday is also Pentecost. That was also the day the Holy Spirit came to rest with man until the day when Jesus returns. In honor of this day and because it's also a day at our church we get to give our Lifelines offering or Missions offering, We would like you to see what love looks

homes and land of lancaster county: The Glue of Life - 05/25/12 06:58 AM
All things are held together by something. If we didn't have gravity, we would be floating weightlessly as in outer space. Our cells are the exact same way, if there wasn't an adhesion protein molecule called laminin in them, they wouldn't be able to stay together and we could not live as we do... we'd be a puddle of goo! Proverbs 25:2 The Message version: God delights in concealing things; scientists delight in discovering things. This protein molecule which was hidden from view for thousands of years has been discovered in our lifetime and it is known now that it is

homes and land of lancaster county: The Devil is in the Details - 05/23/12 06:16 AM
I just heard two different high level politicians quoting scripture this past week. It wasn't the usual political sources you would normally conjure up and I won't mention who they were, it's not important. What is important is that what they used was not in total context and spirit in which they were originally written. Yes, it's a detail, but as the old saying goes, "the Devil is in the details." The scripture quoted was: James 1:27 Amplified Bible (AMP) External religious worship [religion as it is expressed in outward acts] that is pure and unblemished in the sight of

homes and land of lancaster county: There IS NO middle ground - 05/10/12 05:53 AM
There is no fence to ride. There is no compromise; compromise demands increase. There IS NO MIDDLE GROUND. You are either drawing closer to God or you are moving away. Our country, sadly, is moving away slowly. THE FENCE A group of people were fighting over whether there was a God or not. Whether or not Jesus was the Son of God. There was a fence in the middle and after awhile those who picked Jesus were on one side and those who refused to accept him, on the other side. One man couldn't make up his mind so hopped up

homes and land of lancaster county: The Gift of Discernment - 05/09/12 06:04 AM
If we will move in true discernment, our view of life must be purged of human thoughts and reactions. We must perceive life through the eyes of Christ. To Discern, You Cannot JudgeWe will never possess true discernment until we crucify our instincts to judge. Realistically, this can take months or even years of uprooting old thought-systems that have not been planted in the divine soil of faith and love for people. To appropriate the discernment that is in the "mind of Christ" (1 Cor. 2:16), we must first find the heart of Christ. The heart and love of Jesus is

homes and land of lancaster county: Discerning Spirits - 05/08/12 07:07 AM
Mike Frazier asked for a post concerning discerning spirits so I'll do my best with what I know today. Have you ever been somewhere in public, or in someone's office, home or just in the presence of another and suddenly you feel different. Something like, sudden tiredness or exhaustion, or a fear grips you, or depression or you suddenly wonder what it would be like to drive your car off that bridge... or maybe positive feelings like joy, happiness, safety or sudden laughter and just good feelings. The latter is what most people experience when they are in our presence or

homes and land of lancaster county: Your Life Is at Stake - 05/04/12 05:51 AM
Listen, friends, to some fatherly advice; sit up and take notice so you'll know how to live. I'm giving you good counsel; don't let it go in one ear and out the other. When I was a boy at my father's knee, the pride and joy of my mother, He would sit me down and drill me: "Take this to heart. Do what I tell you—live! Sell everything and buy Wisdom! Forage for Understanding! Don't forget one word! Don't deviate an inch! Never walk away from Wisdom—she guards your life; love her—she keeps her eye on you. Above all and before

homes and land of lancaster county: Dan Savage and What the Bible Really Says - 05/01/12 07:44 AM
DAN SAVAGE, ALREADY GONE. Yesterday there was a report of an activist named Dan Savage who was supposed to be delivering a talk on bullying to a group of high school journalists. It took a turn to another topic. The news and YouTube viral vid (I'm not posting the vid here) showed a group led by Jake Naman walking out on the speaker in the middle of it. That took courage to stand up and walk out I'm sure. Dan Savage was on a rant about the hypocrisy of the Blble. I want to veer off here for what is not

homes and land of lancaster county: Is the Market Getting Better? - 04/28/12 10:27 AM
I ran into Frank Christophel, Executive VP of our local real estate board the other week. I asked him how long he had been the exec. veep at LCAR. "37 years." he said. I asked him if in those 37 years had he ever witnessed a market anything like this? He said, "Not even close, not even the 20% interest days and I've never seen less of a reason for it either." Fear has gripped our nation and it has to be confronted before real change will take place. It's all a big analysis paralysis thing that's been going on. I

homes and land of lancaster county: One In A Million Sounds Better... But Still A Miracle! - 04/25/12 07:00 AM
This past week we were privileged to be part of a miracle healing. One of our amazing worship leaders from our church was struck down with a serious sudden illness. Her name is Tiffany Aitken and along with her husband Jon, they lead worship a few times a month at our church, Life Center. She is a young mother of 3 beautiful children and last Monday she was feeling really poorly. *When taken in for examination she was ordered directly to the hospital and diagnosed with what we first heard to be a blood clot in a lung and later turned

homes and land of lancaster county: The Perfect Sermon - 04/11/12 07:50 AM
There was never before and there has never been since, a sermon that could be any better than this perfect sermon. It was delivered impromptu almost 2,000 years ago on a hillside in Galilee. Here it is in it's entirety via the Message version. If you forgot everything else in the bible and just followed these words, it would be enough. Matthew 5 You're Blessed When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions.

homes and land of lancaster county: Is Solar energy really viable? - 04/03/12 07:37 AM
As reports come in on another government subsidized solar company's bankruptcy, I wonder is solar and wind energy really viable today? I want to take a trip off my usual path for just one day. I have a brother-in-law who is extremely bright and a born entrepreneur. Back in the mid 70's he started his own solar business. It was mostly water heaters at that time. They were bulky, huge and really didn't make as much hot water as was needed by a family. It might have been viable for just 2 people in a household, but that wasn't the case

homes and land of lancaster county: A Metaphor for Life - 03/31/12 06:21 AM
I saw a man walking down the street coming towards me with a pack on his back. It was really loaded and looked unbearably heavy. As he got closer I asked him what he was carrying around, that it looked heavy. He didn't smile and said, "You know it's just my cross to bear brother." I said it looks like the opposite to me. He went on beyond me scolding me the entire way out of sight. A while back a friend of ours had a bad cancer and she insisted until the day she died (much too young) that Jesus

homes and land of lancaster county: I Wish Everyone Could See This Movie - 03/30/12 08:20 AM
If I had 3 wishes it would be 1. All America seeing October Baby. 2. Ditto and 3. More ditto. It's in theatres right now and although it was shunned by all of Hollywood as "too controversial" (I'll let you interpret that statement), it took eighth in the box office receipts this past weekend in only 390 theatres compared to over 4,137 venues for the Hunger Games. Quite a powerful movie! Please consider it while it's still in to show your support for LIFE. 10% of proceeds will go to help women in problem pregnancies.

homes and land of lancaster county: Crime and Punishment - 03/27/12 07:57 AM
Most people believe there should always be punishment for every crime. The lastest "crime" being the killing of Trayvon Martin. It is still to be decided as to whether or not this killing was a crime. I personally think it's a crime when anyone loses their life in an untimely fashion. I really don't want to discuss this story but it has raised some questions in my mind about how we feel about punishment in this country. I would venture to say that most everyone believes in justice; I don't think that's going out on a limb. With today's media though,

homes and land of lancaster county: The Lottery and Chickens. - 03/17/12 07:23 AM
I saw this news item that a man who won the lottery had to pay his co-workers who had been going in together for 5 years buying tickets. He said he bought this winning ticket with his own money and not the pool's money. Maybe he did, but his mistake was a 10 million dollar mistake. But that's not what I'm writing about here. I noticed a major human emotion that is a big flaw in many of us, especially in western culture. GREED. I'm not saying those men didn't have a right to fight for what was theirs. I'm not

homes and land of lancaster county: The High Cost of Higher Education - 03/15/12 06:10 AM
My father went to a small private college of some prestige, Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, PA. (Pictured) He liked to use a story from his time there to illustrate a point to my brother and me when our grades weren't so good. He told of the first semester at F&M when he brought his grades home. They weren't so good evidently and his father blasted him with "I'm not paying $350 a year for you to have FUN!" Now he was a "townie" which meant he didn't have to pay room and board. Tuition in recent years at F&M is

homes and land of lancaster county: "Why do bad things happen to good people?" - 03/12/12 08:24 AM
I heard this from the mouths of survivors of the last round of horrific tornadoes to hit our country the other week. "Why do bad things happen to good people?" Well it's a bit of a mystery to me as well. Whenever I have trouble defining something I always turn to the best dictionary I have... The Bible. Everything I want to know is in there. What I read is time after time that there are "good" people having all kinds of bad come upon them. Why? Why God? I'm left with this, these things happen because God wants to see

homes and land of lancaster county: Monumental- The Movie - 03/10/12 07:12 AM
I believe this country is at a monumental crossroads. One path leads to a destiny that is the same as Roman Empire and one path leads to prosperity and recovery to be the bright and shining light on the hill once again. Do you know who said this- "A house divided against itself cannot stand."? Yes it was Lincoln, but he was quoting someone much greater. I think this movie is very important if you love your family and want the very best for it and America. Please watch the trailer and spread the word to all you can.

homes and land of lancaster county: God is... in simple terms. - 03/09/12 07:39 AM
God is...God is not able to be described in human terms. We don’t have the words in our vocabulary that adequately describe Him or His majesty.Feeble as they are, here’s the best I can do... He is that smell of breakfast being cooked while still awaking. Good things to come.He is your spouse asking if you want something when you don’t deserve to be waited on.He is that coincidence of running into someone just minutes after you thought of them for the first time in like forever. He is the artist painting the evening sunset and the morning sky.He is the laughter
