Water Hazard - 12/23/10 01:20 PM
I had to empty my rain gauge three times within the past week because we have had so much rain here in San Marcos.  My rain gauge accumulated over 7 inched in less than a week.  I really wish I had more space to install a few large rain barrels in order to capture some of this to use when we dry out. This is the 18th fairway at Twin Oaks golf course.  There is so much water that it is impossible to get from the tee box to the fairway.  No golfers on this day. * * * * * … (1 comments)

Be proactive about toy hazards by subscribing to the CPSC recall notification - 12/15/10 08:43 PM
This is extremely important information from Russel Ray.  I too subscribe to the CPSC email system for recalls and warnings.  You never really know when something will show up and need to be shared with others.  I have noticed that the recall notices for toys made abroad with lead based paint have waned.  I hope this means that the makers are doing a better job with quality control.

Free water for your yard   OK, maybe not exactly free since you will have to purchase materials to build and install a recovery system.  If you live in an area with limited rainfall and water rates are going up, it is time to consider harvesting the rain that does fall and using it to water the yard.  1000 square feet of roof area will yield approximately 600 gallons of water for every inch of rain that falls.  That statistic is staggering.  Of course to capture this much water is almost impossible in a normal subdivision tract home because there simply is … (0 comments)
