training to run the half marathon: When the Best Intentions go Awry! - 01/08/11 05:37 PM

When the Best Intentions go Awry!

Today, there was a light dusting when I got up. Not a big deal, and not enough to keep me from the Team Rio Kickoff meeting and run in downtown Nashville.
A couple hours later it's still snowing, coming down a little harder, so I turn on the Weather Radio and they assure me that just a dusting up to 1/2 an inch. The big snow is coming Sunday night and Monday. So I get my cold weather gear on and head out.

I took the long way … (8 comments)

Perseverance - Finish what you Start
January 1st this year I posted a blog where I committed to blogging 3 times a week. It wasn't supposed to be a New Year's Resolution, but more of a true promise to my readers. Unfortunately, I have recently "fallen off the wagon". Sadly, it's not just the blogging that has suffered my bad attitude, my running has too.
Many of you know I'm training for the half marathon again this year. It's the Country Music half Marathon on April 24th. Less than 2 weeks away. I'm not feeling prepared. Though I have kept up … (15 comments)

training to run the half marathon: Setting Goals and not achieving them - Ode to the Country Music Marathon April 25, 2009 - 04/27/09 03:09 PM
Country Music Marathon April 25, 2009
Saturday was Nashville’s Country Music Marathon. It was the 10th anniversary. Over 30,000 people lined up on West End Avenue at 7 am to begin the either 26.2 mile Full or 13.1 mile Half Marathon. Most of us had been training for this day for over 12 weeks. Twelve long weeks of Running 3 to 5 days each week. Every Saturday running a little further. On non-running days you lifted weights to build up your core. It helps with endurance. Then, the week before the race you rest. And eat in preparation for the big day. … (6 comments)

training to run the half marathon: Training for the Music City Half Marathon and What it has to do with Real Estate, PART 2! - 02/13/09 04:34 PM
The Music City Marathon is on April 25, 2009. Today that is exactly 10 weeks away.  Now I'm only doing the Half Marathon, 13.1 miles instead of 26.2. But I still have to train for it. Last year I trained but I wasn't as focused. I do a walk/run and my goal was to be under 3 hours. I got in at 3:01:40. Close, but not quite there.
This year I hope to beat my time by at least 1.5 minutes per mile. That would be a 12:40 minute mile. Doable, but only if I can either run a little faster, … (9 comments)

training to run the half marathon: Training for the Music City Half Marathon and What it has to do with Real Estate! - 01/28/09 12:08 PM
Part One of a 12 week series leading up to the Music City Half Marathon on April 25, 2009 here in Nashville Tennessee.
It all started in 2008. I decided that I needed to prove to someone, myself maybe?, that turning 50 was a good thing. I work out with a trainer and she was once again preparing to run the Music City Half Marathon. I listened to her talk about it week after week during our workouts. Finally, it just got to me.
She's not much younger than me, I said to myself. What's to keep me from doing this??
