It's Saturday and the rainy clouds are looming overhead. So, what do the young ones do to keep busy? They build houses. Houses with two rooms, one for each of them, and then they start loading in their precious things...Pillows, blankets, favorite books, and toys. This morning is no exception. My boys have had lots of dreamy home thoughts and if I were to build a new home for us I'd be listening to their advice and thoughts. I am currently typing this from the font stoop of my children's new home and I'd be proud to show it to ANY perspective (10 comments)
Such a parody of errors... But I still made it 'nearly' on time. - 07/30/10 11:45 PM
It was one of those days. You know.... the kind where everything you can imagine goes wrong before you even get out the door to meet your clients. It wouldn't have been so bad, but I was still shaking my head in wonderment when I got to the first showing. My poor buyers were waiting in the drive, but I'm happy to report that I was only three minutes late. We spent our day chasing around in circles only to get to afternoon with overlapping appointments and two kids to have taken care of without a babysitter. Feeling a bit "up (13 comments)
It's like tonight.... I'm out showing houses to clients troubling over the directions from the MLS and how they are written. Managed to take my clients in two complete circles before deciding that I'd made enough of a fool out of myself. So, I pulled over and rolled down the window down to let them know that I was struggling with the written directions. I'd have called (13 comments)
A little sunshine.... - 07/28/10 02:44 PM
Sometimes I wonder why the small things can make all the difference.Like a flower on a trail...It can be just a little bit of "sunshine" to chase the clouds away. Doesn't have to be much...for a 2-year old it's often dandelions...but, it's the unexpected little thingsthat make the biggest difference.
Here's my wish to you.A wish for happy days, sunlit tomorrows...and all things good.

My nearly 3-year old salivates EVERY time he sees a motorcycle. If it's blue his eyes do this little twinkle dance before he swoons and asks if he can ride one. His aspirations are set high! His focus on motorcycles has been a 6-month dream and I'm sure will only strengthen as he grows. As you can see he was thrilled to ride his first Harley on Sunday. It may be the best dollar I ever ever spent on my child. It was the end of the beginning of his motorcycling dream come true! For many of us we have big big (13 comments)
Tonight's storm ended up being a deluge of rain causing deep puddles all the way down my driveway. I am confident that my corn and sunflowers are quite happy with their lengthy drink. But, our weather has been so volitable lately that it seems like watching the clouds is becoming a full-time job for any Minnesota resident. With the recent storms taking out many trees and damaging multiple houses all around our metro area I think that everyone was holding their breath this afternoon when the storms began to roll in. Holding the phone and yakking with my Dad (6 comments)
Found the cutest children's book by Pamela Duncan Edwards and illustrated by Henry Cole. It's a book that every real estate agent should read and have on their shelf for those buyers that love the lesser fortunate homes. This cute little story reminds me of why I love selling and showing these old old homes that are full of history. For the investor that fixes it up or the young family that adopts it... the pain and process are well worth the effort! The love story of a "grand-house" loving it's family and visa versa is quite incredible. Just my (4 comments)
Should a mortgage be denied if you are expecting?.... - 07/22/10 11:26 AM
Yesterday there was an article put out by MSNBC stating that lenders may choose to deny couples money to purchase a home if they are expecting child. Is it just good planning for their financial portfolio to be so selective? Or, is it bigger than that... is it discrimination? In reality, I am sure that there is more to this story than meets the eye. The lender is looking at the financial status of the couples and making sure that they are going to be financially secure to purchase the home and make payments in the future. A working Mama expecting (5 comments)
Do you remember that feeling when you were a wee little thing (but growing) and your pants just didn't fit anymore? You pulled up your pants and the ankle ended at your knee? And, the button didn't button so you had to ask for help and your mama told you to suck in just to get it to stick? It's like you were just too big for your britches. Or when your shoes were so small that your toes hung out the front in gaping holes? How about now?Are you feeling that squeeze? Maybe instead of you it's your family (6 comments)
A bad day at the office with layoffs and paycuts...followed by cranky kids who don't understand the stresses of adult issues...coupled by your inability to figure out where that next mortgage payment is coming from...let alone groceries to feed your family? The reality is...that this is a very real reality in many homes across America. So, where is the rainbow at the end of your storm?Do you see hope at the end of your tunnel? We just experienced some major storms in our area - the wind blowing so strong that it knocked over our garden plants and nearly snapping (2 comments)
Road Construction: This is a sight that is often seen in Minnesota during the summers. Construction workers making a mess of every roadway that they can muster. It starts with the thaw in the spring and ends with the first snow of the winter and for good reason...Our harsh winters cause decay on our road systems and to keep our commutes and travels smooth it just must happen. This summer seems especially hard in the commuting department with delaying in the northwest corner of the metro heading in every direction... Have you eaten at Blink Bonnie?... - 07/20/10 10:10 AM
If you are moving to Elk River (or live there now) you might just want to check out Blink Bonnie's. Located across the highway from Coborn's off Highway 169 Blink Bonnie's is convenient, fast and will deliver! If you are hungry or need to feed a crowd - they are willing to accomodate. A family owned company for 15 years with a lone store in St Paul for much of that time, they decided to stretch their wings and grow. Not ONLY have they expanded their menu, but they are up to six locations with a new store opening this fall (3 comments)
Today... - 07/11/10 11:00 PM
I loved our church service this morning. Pastor brought home a point that is sometimes hard to live by, but truly good to remember and to strive to hear. It went something like this, "Are you living and laughing or crying and pouting?" Yup. Great advice. If we spend our days crying in our soup over the mistakes we make, the injustices done to us, and the downfalls... we never really live. Every day is a choice no matter our circumstances. We can laugh or we can cry. The problem with the choice? If you choose to cry - you can't (2 comments)
Prank could cost arsonists more than porta potties... - 07/08/10 11:50 PM
Yessirree Bob... You heard me. Porta potties. A lot of them gone up in flames. It's all over the internet - just google "Elk River, MN porta potty" and you'll get a lot of hits on this story. First off - I have to say that I am really amazed that a porta potty could possibly cost $1000! Who knew? What person for the life of them would think that setting one on fire would be worth the effort... and at that kind of money -let alone many of them. There are reports of "up to" 75 toilets being set on (15 comments)

10 signs it's time to take a day and clean the house!!! - 07/05/10 05:12 PM
Summer always gets away with me. It's that time of year that if you aren't working you want to be outside enjoying every bit of sunshine while it's here... because in Minnesota it only lasts a short short time. Like my mobile office there are warning signs that show me I just need to initiate a good cleaning before it's too late! Here are a few that I look for... 10. When you start deliberately smelling your dirty clothes in search of something that "doesn't smell so bad" it's probably time to do the laundry! Stop everything... order in dinner if (13 comments)
Last nights fireworks in Elk River may have been the best ever! Sitting amongst the crowds lined on Lion's Park Drive we were hearing a lot of oohs, aahs and gratitude for the wonderful display that was presented. I must admit that I had LOADS of fun filling my camera with the lightshow. Maybe it was the lack of fireworks in town last year that made this years display so special? Or, maybe it was the combined effort amongst citizens to provide a wonderful family event on this 4th of July. Or, maybe it was the change of venue giving (5 comments)
