BREAKING NEWS: Dino's tail falls off in Elk River! - 08/27/10 03:40 PM
In all seriousness and fun...
Eastbound lanes of traffic on Highway 10 headed into Elk River are consistantly greeted by our life size dinosaur sporting his time at the BP station just outside of town.
This week it has been reported that Dino dropped his tail... literally.Dino NEEDS a doctor!!!
He's waiting ever so patiently for someone to fix his rump while he continues to greet travelers headed this way and that.
In all this heat he may have dried out and cracked the tail, but he's only a light sprint away from Orono Lake and could have taken a … (5 comments)

I see you Mr. Airplane.Doing whirly whirlies above my head.You are flying low enough thatI'm pretty sure that you see me too...Do you see me taking your picture?Maybe we took pictures of each other taking pictures! Wouldn't that be a hoot!
But, really, Mr Airplane...You've been flying over my house for like three hours now. It's not gonna matter.I'm working right now and don't have time to go out and clean up my yard.

Kelly is at it again this summer!She is making daily appearances at the edge of town greeting highway travelers as they head East and West on Highway 10 in Elk River.
Ever present this time of year and showing off her fancy digs.... Kelly is always a sight to see. She attracts a lot of attention to the cars that she's advertising and reminds folks driving through why Elk River is a great place to be.

Elk River goes underground... - 08/26/10 12:45 AM
Over the last couple of weeks I've been watching in Elk River as the worker bees have been marking, measuring, moving and digging...
This week they've been turning out the electric in spots and pushing the electrical lines underground.Hopefully it will be safer during storms and hard weather conditions causing less outages and interuptions to Elk River's electric systems.
My kids sat and watched tonight as the lines were being pulled out of the sky and wrapped onto big speels to be taken away.

In Elk River you can find the most beautiful of sunsets. (especially during the summertime)What a better way celebrate the end of the day than by watching the sun head over the horizon!Or the back of your house. Located just minutes outside Elk River,Nowthen Park is a beautiful place to visit.
With plenty of picnic area,a playground area,indoor restroom area, a gorgeous swimming beach,a soccer field,walking paths,a boat launch,and fishing pier...
This park has a little of everything.It's located in a quaint and unsuspecting area just off Nowthen Blvd and easy to find.
We had loads of fun checking out the wooded walking trails from the fishing pier to the swimming area.The boys found lots of "treasures" along the way...From acorns to mushroomsto froggiesthey enjoyed the wildlife.I did have … (2 comments)

Elk River is a bit hazy and drab this morning so I thought I'd shoot out a little bit of sunshine. Okay, so maybe it isn't sunshine, but these beautifully colored flowers were a highlight of our trip to Nowthen Park yesterday. I especially liked the bee hanging around the flowers...just made them all the more smily!

I can't believe that I've lived less than twenty minutes away from this event nearly my entire life and never known what it was before.
Celebrating their 40th year this spectacular event is family friendly and loads of fun.
What really drew me to this show was the pricing. For $8.00 I gained entry with my two boys. (those 13 and under are free)We made it in time to see the daily tractor parade which was ever so much fun! There must have been over 100 tractors that trailed passed us … (2 comments)

I LOVE the pictures and imagination that the author clearly presents in this story. She has done a fabulous job of giving reason to children's fun!

Growing a garden in the sandy Elk River soil is a challenge most summers, but this summer has provided some extra challenges for this novice gardener.I am grateful that I have the land to grow my gardens and to expand and experiment without itbothering the neigbhors or looking really really bad.We have added a few 'extras' to our growing garden this summer including corn and sunflowers and winter squash.But, mostly, it's the yearly yummies that we planted.I do love my carrots, green peppers, tomatoes, greens and watermelons.

Confessions of a Flip Flop... flippy flop... - 08/14/10 11:06 PM
My brother is probably right that hearing a dorm full of college students walking past his room endless times a day going "flip flip flip" down the hall is quite annoying. I really can't blame his aversion to the raging summer shoe fad.
His feelings against the ever comfortable floppy shoe has not deterred me in the least from wearing and loving my favorite summer slipper by any means.

Farley Found It! is a very sweet bedtime story written and illustrated by Bruce Van Patter.
A little sheep out in the field who's scared of the big openness goes and steals the doggie's house. In effort to regain his home the doggie hides his house all over the farmyard from Farley, but the sheep keeps finding it and stealing it back from the doggie.

Building a house can be a complicated matter for any family. Finding compromises to building the "perfect" home for each person. From the size and shape to the colors and design - there are many decisions to be made and even more work to be done.
I was watching some very hard at work wasps today. They were building and working and working and building.It made me wonder if the bees in the hive ever fight over who gets the bigger bedroom or what color their kitchen would be.

Wordless Wednesday - Fascinating sunset - 08/12/10 12:15 AM
Took this yesterday... I actually pulled over for this one. It was like God was peeking through the clouds and shining out of the sky. Too early for spotlights - just the perfect lighting through the clouds. Absolutely beautiful and bringing my thoughts back to the maker himself.
Don't know what's caused it, but we have had some gorgeous sunsets in our Minnesota horizon this summer!

In January of 2009 I wrote this blog post about my "mobile office" needing a clean (which it still needs) and it has fascinated me ever since.
Every so often, right about the time that I'm thinking that my mobile office needs a good cleanup, someone comments on this very old blog post.
I have wondered time and again what the draw is to my old post, but I think that it's sheer honesty! Or, maybe it's God's way of reminding me that people can see the inside of my car and I should take time to clean it?

~ My very own little Thumper ~At first I thought this little guy was a mouse. He was only about 3 inches long...and scared as could be. Found him inside my chicken coop cowering and shivering.I probably would have been too! Seriously, I could have fit three of him in my hand he was so teeny tiny.Wanted to take him home with me, but that wouldn't have been the best way to save his little life.

I could live in this house!Sunflowers have always been my favorite flowers and what a great house to have.This book was very sweet and made me want to build a sunflower house for myself!
I liked the thought that my kids had a book that made them dream about where they would want to live.
Adding this book to my collection would be fun because then I could have it available for other little ones to dream about their homes. Whether made out of conventional materials and shapes or thinking outside the box.

Gotta love wordless Wednesdays. There are so many wonderful things to enjoy and go wordless with. I took this photo yesterday while we were picnicking at the Coon Rapids Dam. It was so warm that we opted for a blanket under a shady tree instead of a table in the direct sun and we got a party of ducks and gooseys to surround us.
