Paying it forward expo style... - 03/28/11 01:41 PM
I don't know that I've missed being at an Elk River business expo for 10 years. I love all the chats and visiting that I get to do with my colleagues, clients, past clients,  friends, neighbors, family friends and Elk River folk that I haven't seen for ages and some for years. By the end of business expo day my smiler is wore out and my legs ache for a sit, but it is all worthwhile. You see, as an exhibitor at the expo I see it as my job to help the patrons and visitors feel welcome. I shoot out … (1 comments)

It's a sloppy gloppy mess... but that won't stop me! - 03/18/11 05:44 PM
It's a sloppy gloppy mess out there right now, but that won't stop me! I have houses to view and place to be. With showings and open houses and clients moving around...A little mud? Perfect for my toes and feet to play in.So, with a little "spring" in my step,I'm stomping around...splashing in puddles and making my groove. From one house to the next - Wiping my feet at the door...It's no big deal to live in Minnesota...especially when it's warm! So, enjoy the warming weather. And, if you're of a mind,Call me today and let's go have some fun! There are houses to see … (4 comments)

Wordless Wednesday - 03/16/11 11:28 PM
Seeing this barn always reminds me of my grandpa's farm from childhood. I can't say that his farm deteriorated like this, but it brings back memories of the past when Granp's would go out milking the cows...

If you are looking for acreage in the area or even farming properties there are a few to choose from. Maybe not like the one portrayed above, but the "old farmstead" for sure!

Food for thought.... (pay it forward) - 03/13/11 11:46 PM
Caer, Elk River Food Shelf, runs based on donations and gifts and kind hearted folks that keep it moving smoothly. Every March they run a drive and depend on it's success to keep the doors open for those that have run 'amuck' and need a hand up. It's that time of year that the community comes together and supports the needs of others in that extra special 'push' to help the local organization.
In the last few years demand at the local food shelf has grown by leaps and bounds causing the need for donation to grow even more. And, all … (3 comments)

Growing up Elk River style... - 03/11/11 11:57 AM
Like many cities in Minnesota, Elk River has spent the last many years experiencing growth, change and then a standstill. Still a thriving town in the north suburbs of Minneapolis, Elk River holds families that still desire to see a bit of the philosophy that has been in the heart of us for years and years. Throughout my growing up years we would drive into town passing the billboard that proclaimed, "where city and country flow together" and though recent changes have made it feel more like 'city' the 'country' still survives.I had the pleasure of visiting "The bluffs of Elk … (2 comments)

The writing is in the sand.... - 03/08/11 07:02 PM
It may not LOOK like much, but the writing is in the sand!.... Literally. Spring is on it's way. With a 40 degree day at it's end and water flowing everywhere there isn't much denying it. Yes, we still have much snow lurking in obtrusive piles everywhere, but they are melting. Slowly but surely spring will come! The proof in the pudding? The sand is loosening up - and my kids came in muddier than wet today! Yes, I know. It was warm three weeks ago and then cooled down... That was the teaser - this is the real deal! Even if … (4 comments)

A little green? - 03/08/11 12:47 AM
In Minnesota with grass and ground covered in inches and inches of snow and folks in every town and county waiting with itchy fingers to dig into their gardens to plant tasty veggies there is only one way to satisfy that need to see something green growing. It's that 'small' beginning that gives us hope of a greener future - one that is filled with freshness and warmth and crunchy good flavor. This is the week to start. Typically giving us eight weeks until the sun has warmed the earth enough for soil to turn and to avoid freezing of the precious … (4 comments)

Yummy yummy... what is it about those cookies? (pay-it-forward) - 03/05/11 11:53 PM
There are many things that spring brings. Sunshine. Warmer days. Melting snow. Garden planting. Returning birds and budding trees. Then, there are those blessed little round things. What'd you say? Girl Scout Cookies? Yup. Shortcake. Thin mints. Lemon Chalets? Mmmmmm. Never had those before. It's just that time of year where you want to load up on those blessed little boxes of yummy yummies and enjoy. Maybe it feels like you are helping yourself.... but really? Really it's helping out those young scouts! My boys have certainly learned young to enjoy those little sugar treats.... going so far as to climbing the … (8 comments)

I'd go by bike... if only the weather would change... - 03/01/11 12:00 AM
I walked past my garage today and thought about how much fun it would be to drag the bike from the garage and get ready for a good ride. The trouble? The weather said it all tonight... March is Minnesota's third snowiest month. With our luck this year I may as well hold off on getting the bike ready until April! It wouldn't be so bad, but I can hardly walk on our icy slick sidewalks and driveways with treaded shoes let alone trying on the tires of a 12 speed. There are a brave few that I've seen riding bicycles … (6 comments)
